    Can't connect Rhythmbox to LastFM

Rhythmbox (on Ubuntu Karmic) won't accept my LastFM username and password. I'm pretty confident I'm getting them right, because I'm entering them using a password manager (KeePass) and they work when I log in directly to the LastFM website. Is this a known issue? Is there any way around it? Am I missing something?

  • Yeah

Mine connects (on Fedora Release 10(Cambridge)) but does not work

  • me too

Yeah, I'm going to be pissed if I cant use it in rhythmbox.

  • ditto

    I'm having the same troubles.

    Leave only your footsteps.
  • Try this

    completely close out of Rhythmbox

    delete the file: ~/.gconf/apps/rhythmbox/audioscrobbler/%gconf.xml

try logging in again (and make sure you get the password right the first time you type it)

    Works for me...

    (on Ubuntu Karmic)

    1. close Rhythmebox
    2. delete the file: ~/.gconf/apps/rhythmbox/audioscrobbler/%gconf.xml
    3. open Rhythmebox without going to Last.fm
    4. open Plugins-Window
    5. enter credentials in the Configuration-Dialog of the 'last.fm' plugin
    after that, my connection works...

  • That made the trick for me:

    Ubuntu 9.10

    1. Open Plugins Window
    2. Uncheck Last-FM box, then check it again
    3. Enter configuration data in the Configuration-Dialog

It seems that I made mistake entering my password. Hope it works for rest of us.

    Try this :)

    Tested on Ubuntu 9.10

FIRST OF ALL ender your username and password in last.fm page

1.Go to Applications >Ubuntu Software Center>write in the search bar last.fm>find the file and install it
2.Open Rhythmbox and at left choose last.fm
3.Ender your your user name and password
    4.Applications>Sound & Video>Last.fm
5.Enter again your user name and password

  • Are you fix with this solutions??

    I can't connect yet.

  • I'm having the same problem. This is irritating the sh*t out of me! It worked for about 60 seconds and now refuses to work again!

Mine wouldn't either, not even if I unchecked the box in the list of plug-ins where LAST.FM is listed and closing the plug-in, and reopening the plug-in and re-entering the log-in information, and not even after closing Rhythmbox and reopening Rhythmbox and trying to re-enter the log-in information.

However, the Rhythmbox icon would show up on top, and after right-clicking on the icon, then clicking on "Quit," then reopening Rhythmbox, then clicking on the icon to open Rhythmbox, it was then that the log in worked.

In other words, the first time that I tried entering my log in information, it would say that I had used the wrong user name or password, even if closing Rhythmbox and re-opening it, but after I clicked on Quit to close the Rhythmbox icon, then after re-opening Rhythmbox and re-entering my log in information, then it worked.

    beware of hypocritical liars
  • Ubuntu 9,10

Install Last.fm in your applications list. Remember to enter your USERNAME! Not EMAIL!

  • type you login
    then type your password
    then press Tab few times.
    then wait few seconds.
    then it works.

This worked without closing Rhythmbox in Ubuntu 10.04!

  • None of this works

I have closed Rhythmbox, reopened it, have installed Lastfm via the Software centre, removed the mentioned file via terminal. Fresh 10.10 install, LastFM worked before, does not now. I have logged in via LastFM's website first, I have changed my password. I have created a whole new LastFM account.

    This sucks

    fixed it

I don't use Ubuntu, I use Arch Linux and had the same problem.
In fact, Rhythmbox was trying to call my browser, firefox, from a wrong place: /usr/lib/firefox-3.0, instead of my correct one: /usr/lib/firefox-3.6
So check in /usr/lib in which folder is the version of firefox you're using, and create a link to that folder calling it firefox-3.0 (to do that you need to be root), since apparently rhythmbox still wants that one!
After that if you try to connect the last.fm plugin it will work! :-)
    Bye!

  • This worked for me

First I went into the Plugins menu via Edit disabled the LastFM Plugin in Rhythmbox and closed it. Then I went into Ubuntu Software Centre and uninstalled and reinstalled LastFM, this actually installed a LastFM player on my system. Then I opened that and logged into that first. Closed it, then re-opened Rhythmbox, renabled the plugin and am now logged in through Rhythmbox!

  • tab worked

just mash tab like 10 times it worked for me after like 30mins of trying everything else lol

Well for me it works with Linux Mint without any errors of the sort.
