let's call it uplifting instead of revolutionary. revolutions are a thing of the past and you know it.
don't fool yourself by wearing a che guevara t-shirt.

was sich durchsetzt ist nicht richtig
  • Hip hop is really not my strong side, but still I love N.W.A and Ice-T, thats fucking revolutionary hip hop!
I also like: Keny Arkana, revolutionary French hiphop..
the swedish group Looptroop, Promoe, Non Phixion and Jedi Mind Trick
All of them gives the mood for riot!!!

You guys should listen to Uncle Scams, he is an amazing Anarcho-Hip-Hop artist!

scams is dope. he dropped a verse on 'peace inside', the last track on my last solo album.

and just a reall quick off topic note -
there are tons of revolutionaries in the hip hop scene, way more then the same few names that get thrown out over and over in threads like this. just get out in your local scene and start listening - support local artists doing real live music where you are, instead of waiting to hear about the next big thing nationally or internationally. that's the only way revolutionary music will blow up, is if fans support it.

    just my 2 cents.

  • Wow, no Litle Brother mentioned, and no Sole?

Also, I know it's not exactly "Hip-Hop" and they do have one song on the radio recently, but Flobots are extremely political, and are definitenly part of the hip-hop movement.

Other than that, people have mentioned some great names in this post, and some stuff I haven't heard yet.

Politically charged hip-hop I can't stop listening to:

    Sage Francis
    Sole
    Flobots
    Immortal Technique
    Aesop Rock
    Jedi Mind Tricks
    Michael Franti
    Dead Prez
    Little Brother
    The Roots
    Mos Def
    Talib Kweli
    Slum Village

As an Anarchist, when it comes to Hip Hop, I fucks with Immortal Technique, Rage Against the Machine, Blue Scholars, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Promoe, Looptroop, dead prez, The Coup, The Flobots, Combat Wombat, Sweatshop Union, Sage Francis, etc.

Only Immortal Technique, Promoe, Combat Wombat, The Coup, and Dead Prez seem to be overtly revolutionary, but they're all conscious.

  • Founder of the I AM HIP-HOP group.

  • K'naan

K'naan, a revolutionary rapper, fled from Somalië with his mother and tried to built op a live in Canada. Meanwhile, he recorded the album Dusty Foot Philosopher, which gives a clear view upon the situation in his homeland...

  • And please don't forget Blue Scholars. The revolutionary duo from the USA, rapping against racism, individualism and capitalism. Giving attention to the third world. You should, for example, listen to the song Fire For The People, it's awesome. No, not awesome, more...
