  • Very nice. But John Myung is from Dream Theater, as is Mike Portnoy :P don't worry about it though.

I wonde about the effectiveness of three vocalists?

Well, I wouldn't have them sing at the same time :p

But for a prog-opera concept album (Like Arjen Lucassen's or Trent Gardner's) I could see them fine with their respective roles and respective very different ways of singing...
Sir Russel Allen would be the power singer, when some strength and energy and very good intense acting is required.
Daniel Gidenlow would be the singer for sensual-eccentric-introspective parts.
And finally Fabio Lione would be singing when virtue, goodness, order, optimism and heroism are involved in the plot.

Well, maybe the true subsconscious reason for me to throw them in, is because they're my favourite metal singers :P

    Have a nice day!!

  • So our ultimate forum band would look something like that:

Vocals/Guitars - Daniel Gildenlow (Pain of Salvation)
    Guitars - Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth)
Bass - John Myung (Dream Theater)

Bass - Tony Levin (King Crimson/LTE)
Drums - Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater)
    Keys - Sherinian / Warman / Johansson / Moore / Pinnella

I took Portnoy because he's got the most votes from the DT members
And talking about Keys I think the band with Pinnella might be interesting

and here you have "The Second Place Band"

Guitar - John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
Guitar - Mike Romeo (Symphony X)
Vocals - Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree)
    Bass - Geddy Lee (Rush)
    Drums - Danny Carey (Tool)

    whoa, hope that's everything

    Guitar: Steve Rothery (Marillion)
    Bass: John Myung (Dream Theater)
Keys: Kevin Moore (ex-Dream Theater, Chroma Key)
    Drums: Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater)

Uhm, alright most of the members are from DT but to be honest DT is almost a supergroup^^

Absolute Anal Riot (And Blaspehemy): Danny DeVito Is A Dwarf. Fragments Of A Faggot's Depravation - Total Vaginal Laments Of Unborn Misanthropic Cunts. And Birte Karalus Sucks. And So Does Don Bluth. Addendum: Vaginal Signs Of Retarded Rapelessons. Total Anal Hakenkreuz In Ronan Keating's Anus. And Danny DeVito Keeps Being A Dwarf.

Thank you the_koza for that great summary! :)

I like that "ultimate forum band", it looks like a nice improved version of Dream Theater (or at least, a good way -- in my opinion -- to improve it)

  • Well, I was just bored and I thought I can do something creative and maybe it will be usefull. I also like the "ultimate forum band" but I think that Mikael should also growl sometime ;-) And the "second place band" might play a really nice prog rock, maybe something like "An Evening with Petrucci and Rudess" (especially with Lapaj on keys)

These slight variations on DT are a bit of a cop out to be honest. I already like DT for who they are, but I'd like to see collaborations from lots of different influences.

That said, I'd kill to hear Russell Allen belt out some DT :o

  • This is tough, I could form 20 or 30...
So I'll list some Options and you guys see what you can think up!
so... I 'd like to see Micheal Romeo, Kiko Loreiro, and Luca Turilla work on some song writing and guitar work!

Bass: tony levin for stick (but I dont know if he's into the heavier stuff, he's almost 60) so for real bass... who's the metal guy who plays fretless (isnt he in gordian knot or somethin) ...hmmm, could always go with Billy Sheehan.

Keys... Micheal Pinella or Alex Staropoli (both would overlap from the guitar section), so maybe the guy from COB...

Drums... Mike Mangini (no overlaps there, I hope)

lol... supergroups...so many options....brain about to explode thinking about it..............BOOM

new Wolvengard album just released! www.myspace.com/wolvengard

from all progressive bands I like DT are my least favorite, I would much rather hear a different band play, and Danny Carey beats Mike in so many ways it's not even funny

I'm sorry... one of the best rhytmic parts forever and everyone is forgetting them:

Zoltan Czorsz and Jonas Reingold from Flower Kings... I think they can even play metal... :D

  • Drums: David Lombardo (Fantomas, Slayer)
    Bass: Justin Chancellor (Tool)
    Guitar: John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
    Guitar: Buckethead
    Vocals: Mike Patton (Mr. Bungle)

Yeah, so it might not be all prog but it would definitely be interesting.

I need sanctuary in the pages of this book..
  • Drummer: Neil Peart (Rush)
    Bass: Geddy Lee (Rush)
    Guitar: John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
    Guitar: Alex Lifeson (Rush)
    Vocals: James LaBrie (Dream Theater)

Those aren't the only two progressive bands i like, although it may seem like that. I just think they have by far the best musicians

  • Vocals: Mikael Akerfeldt
    Guitars: Mikael Akerfeldt/Peter Lindgren
    Bass: Martin Mendez
    Sticks: Martin Lopez
    Keys: Per Wiberg

Hey wait, this sounds like a band already made... strange. :P

  • In reality...

These guys aren't necessarily prog, but mostly are.

Guitars - John Petrucci (before Train of Thought)
    - Mikael Akerfeldt (get to use him on vocals as well)
    - Jon Schaffer (for the best rhythm around)
    Bass - Les Claypool
Keyboard - Trent Reznor (his creative input would be pretty awesome)
    Sticks - Mike Portnoy
Vocals - Daniel Gildenlow (guitar optional)
    - Mikael Akerfeldt

    and the most integral part...

    Spoons - Me

    Whatever you're looking for
    Don't ever start looking behind
