  • Preview of Pocket Scrobbler v1.9 now available

    Hey there,

    first, the usual disclaimer:

This thread is for discussions of the unstable preview release of Pocket Scrobbler v1.9 #1 on Pocket PC. This release is intended for testing only, and if you expect your applications to work out of the box, you should wait for the stable release. You can download the latest stable release here.

Well, finally there is a first preview of PS v1.9 available for Pocket PC (aka Windows Mobile Classic/Professional aka "devices with touchscreens"). Some changes:

    Browsing tab:
    - new "Recent tracks" page
    - new "Recommendations" page
    - enhanced "Events" page displaying playing artists and a list of your friends attending
    - enhanced "Friends" page displaying the last track played by each friend
    - fixed missing weekly charts on "Charts" page
    - fixed bug preventing adding of event to Outlook calendar if event takes place in March
    - all parts of the browsing tab now use the 2.0 webservices of last.fm; the migration might have introduced some bugs in previously working parts of the application, thus please report any issue (e.g. I'm aware of the tasteometer being sometimes inaccurate).

    Other parts of the app:
    - possibility to temporarily disable scrobbling (checkbox on status tab has to be enabled in options first)
    - you can now bulk submit tracks to last.fm every n-scrobbled tracks to preserve battery power
    - "on tour" banner during radio playback in case artist is on tour (tapping it brings you to the event page of the browsing tab)
    - excluded msxml3.dll from setup, thus fixing XML error messages
    - ability to add a track to an existing/a new playlist
    - fixed some display issues on WVGA devices (HTC HD2 etc.)
    - several smaller bug fixes I forgot about

    Download here

Oh and by the way: In case you are a developer interested in contributing to Pocket Scrobbler, please feel free to drop me a line. Anyone with some knowledge of native programming on Windows CE/Windows Mobile would be especially helpful for the project.

great to hear events info extended :) will check new unstable version soon.
    thanks

    some issues:
PS didn't download user profiles while using pc sync, profiles are still on the list 'to sync' in the app from the previous version which was automatically uninstalled during installation of this, before installation I close the background process.
second issue probably cause by the one above, in my friend list everyone's last track info is empty.

Thanks for your feedback! Does clearing the web cache help (Menu > Advanced > Browsing > Cache > Clear)?

don't want to clear cache now cause I just browsed many pages to make them available offline. another problem is friend list is too short, it doesn't display all my friends and there is no any second page there for rest of friends.
in events details there are no info about my friend's attendance, artists displayed very well (on the event where there are many artists not all pictures were downloaded)

  • Does this work with the player built into the TouchFlo 3D tab? Older builds didn't work for me.

Which version of TouchFlo (i.e. which device/custom or OEM ROM) are you using? As far as I know, Pocket Scrobbler works with all versions of the HTC Audiomanager/TouchFlo. In fact I've been using v1.8 on my HTC HD2 since December without a problem.

However, keep in mind that in order to get TouchFlo compatibility, you first have to change the media player interface in Menu > Media player interfaces to "HTC Audio Manager interface". After that, restart both the user interface and the background service using Menu > Close window and service.

  • I have Touch Diamond II with TF 2.1 on WM 6.5.3.

I will give it another shot right now.

  • it seems it works.

But there are two extremely annoying features in the control app:
    1) Opera launches when I start the app. And also when I tap something in the app opera sometimes launches. It is very annoying, because it takes like 10 seconds to start and close it again.

    2) Once the input keyboard opens while in the Scrobbler app, it is nearly impossible to close it (except restrting the app), so the bottom half of the screen becomes unuseable. The keyboard button on the bottom bar just opens the keyboard pop up menu. This might be problem with the WM 6.5.3, but it doesn't happen in any other program.

Luckily the scrobbling works and thats what is important.

    Thank you for your advice.

Known issue if Opera is associated with local *.HTM files. In Menu > Advanced > Misc, make sure that "Check HTML file association" is checked, then restart the application. On the next startup, a message box will ask you to associate *.HTM files with Internet Explorer. Confirm this and Opera shouldn't be launched anymore. Note that this will not change your default browser; Opera can be used as before.

Sorry, but I cannot reproduce this in the emulator or on my HTC HD2 (running WM 6.5). Are you using a customized ROM?

As before, there will be a release for Smartphones, although there aren't that many changes on that platform.

Oh, I thought that would change my default browser association as well. Much better now.

Yes, it is probably caused by the customized WM.

Anyways, thanks for a great and free piece of software. I'm a programmer myself and I know, how much time is necessary to write such program.

Thanks Picaresque, version 1.9 working very well so far with my HD2 with standard wwe rom 1.66 running. Had to tell pocket scrobbler to use the htc audiomanager in settings, and after that, working smoothly! Keep up the good work!

  • Thanks for this new version, but it seams that scrobbling UTF-8 titled songs (japanese, chinese, ...) is broken.

That's weired as I didn't change the implementation of the Audioscrobbler protocol in this version. Did it work in v1.8? Are you sure the encoding in the ID3 tags of the file is correct?

  • That's weird... now I reinstalled v1.8 but it's still broken
    I didn't change anything in my MP3s...
And Pocket Scrobbler is showing correct UTF-8, unlike Last.fm

EDIT : nevermind, it works. "Just listened" tracks shows correct UTF-8, but "Listening" tracks shows broken UTF-8. It just seams to be a little Last.fm issue, nothing serious.

hmm, after a reboot of the phone, pocketscrobbler does not automatically start with the htc audiomanager. It does work and keep working when i manually start the pocket scrobbler, and leave the service running, but automatically starting the pocketscrobbler service when i open the music player and start playing music, does not right now. Will see if i can figure out why.

edit: following the instructions on the sourceforge faq it seems to be working now, will keep you posted on how it keeps running.

    thanks!

Works like a charm on my X1 (WM 6.5), seems *much* more responsive than 1.8b. Thanks for the update!

Both problems are connected, I will have a look at it.

Should be fixed in the next preview.

  • Why cant I get the radio to work?

On my 360 and my friends android phone I can listen to my radio tracks but not my loved ones due to me not being a subscriber, but on pocketscrobbler its telling me no matter what I want to stream I have to be a member, I looked in the FAQ and there is nothing in there about this, could someone please inform me of what I need to do? or if its possible?
