Plastic City

The Timewriter and Terry Lee Brown Junior, Marshall Jefferson, AWeX (f.ex Tom Wax), Steve Poindexter, Kriss Dior aka Bassface Sascha, David Alvarado, Andry Nalin (Nalin & Kane), Alexi Delano und G-Pal. Until 2003 it was owned by UCMG. For a short-term period Holophon adopted it and since 2004 „Plastic City“ belongs to Daredo. Between 1995 and 2002 Plastic City was also located in London (Plastic City UK) and New York (Plastic city America) with several individual single releases and its own repertoire (tribe) of artists. In consequences of the September 11th, 2001 and the fact, that the New Yorker bureau was located in the neighbourhood of Ground Zero, label activities had been stopped. Also „Plastic City UK“ didn’t release any new albums for a short-term period. A lot of artists of this time from both sister labels are now releasing directly on the mother label in Germany.
The musical responsibility has firstly Alexander Hendorf (A&R). Afterwards appeared Babak Shayan (2001-2002). Since 2004 Joachim Keil assumes full responsibility for Plastic City, whereas since 2006 Alex Flatner is responsible for artists management. The most successful releases of Plastic City are Compilation series of Terry’s Café (1-12), Deep Train (1-5) as well as the albums of Terry Lee Brown Junior and The Timewriter. Since August 2008 there is a weekly radio show at the Sonica Radio station Ibiza with Djs Gorge and Greg Silver.

The Label philosophy:

Plastic city a town, doesn’t made of stones and metal, but made up on the thoughts of their listeners. That, at least has been mentioned by Scientists in 2495 in „Scientists Report network“ (so written in English on a lot of covers since 1995 till today). Thereby, Plastic City has something mystical; it should be timeless but still keeps his flow. It is a town (built by thoughts), where the habitants and their positions are indeterminate, as new dimensions are developing constantly and changes are taking place.
The releases of Plastic City are divided in so called time ages like “Reconstructed“ (1998 – 2002), „Maybe, Plastic City“ (2003-2006) and actually „Imagination of the shape“ (2006-today).

Plastic City, ein deutsches Plattenlabel mit Sitz in Mannheim, veröffentlicht seit 1993 verschiedene Künstler und DJs der Musikrichtung Tech House u.a. The Timewriter und Terry Lee Brown Junior, Marshall Jefferson, AWeX (u.a. Tom Wax), Steve Poindexter, Kriss Dior aka Bassface Sascha, David Alvarado, Andry Nalin (u.a. Nalin & Kane), Alexi Delano und G-Pal. Bis 2003 gehörte das Label zur UCMG. 2003 übernahm es kurzfristig die Firma Holophon. 2004 wurde das Label dann von Daredo übernommen.
Plastic City unterhielt von 1995 bis 2002 auch Büros in London (Plastic City UK) und in New York (Plastic City America) mit teilweise eigenen separaten Single-Veröffentlichungen und jeweils eigenem Künstlerstamm. In der Folge der Terroranschläge auf das World Trade Center am 11. September 2001 und Aufgrund der Tatsache, dass sich das Büro in New York im Ground Zero Gebiet (Ecke John/Gold Street in Downtown Manhattan) befand, wurden die Labelaktivitäten in den USA eingestellt. Auch auf Plastic City UK gab es kurze Zeit später keine neuen Veröffentlichungen mehr. Viele der Künstler aus dieser Zeit von den beiden Schwesterlabels aus den USA und UK veröffentlichen heute auf dem "Mutterlabel" in Deutschland direkt.
Musikalisch verantwortlich war zunächst Alexander Hendorf (A&R). Später kam Babak Shayan (2001 - 2002) dazu. Seit 2004 liegt die musikalische Verantwortung bei Joachim Keil, wobei seit 2006 zusätzlich Alex Flatner bei der Künstlerbetreuung mit dabei ist.
Zu den erfolgreichsten Veröffentlichungen von Plastic City zählen die Compilationserien Terry´s Cafe (1-12) und Deep Train (1-6) sowie die Alben von Terry Lee Brown Junior und The Timewriter.
Seit August 2008 läuft die Plastic City Radio Show wöchentlich im Sonica Radio Ibiza mit den DJs Gorge und Greg Silver.

Die Labelphilosophie:

Plastic City ist eine Stadt, die nicht aus Stein oder Metall besteht, sondern sich vielmehr aus den Gedanken der Hörer zusammensetzt. Das zumindest sollen Wissenschaftler im Jahr 2495 in dem "Scientist Report Network" veröffentlicht haben (so steht es in englisch auf vielen Covern des Labels seit 1995 bis heute zu lesen). Plastic City wirkt dadurch etwas mystisch, soll zeitlos sein und gleichzeitig immer im Fluss bleiben. Es ist eine Stadt (aus Gedanken), in der die Einwohner (Künstler) und ihre Position sich nicht statisch ermitteln lassen, da sich konstant neue Formen entwickeln und ständig Veränderungen stattfinden.
Die Veröffentlichungen von Plastic City werden in so genannte Zeitalter aufgeteilt: "Early Days" (1993-1996), "Age Of Search and Destruction" (1996-1998), "Reconstructed" (1998-2002), "Maybe.Plastic City" (2003-2006) und aktuell "Imagination Of The Shape" (2006 - heute).
