A group dedicated to the wonderful Peter Hook, bassist of Joy Division and New Order.

Join if you love Hooky!

Peter "Hooky" Hook (born 13 February 1956 in Salford, Lancashire) is an English bass player.
He was a co-founder of the post-punk band Joy Division along with Bernard Sumner in the mid-1970s. Following the death of lead singer Ian Curtis, the band reformed as New Order, and Hook played bass with them throughout their career until his departure in 2007. He has also recorded an album with Revenge (One True Passion) and two albums with Monaco (Music For Pleasure and Monaco) as bassist, keyboardist and lead vocalist.
Recently he has also performed as a DJ. He is currently working on a new band project called Freebass with bass players Mani (ex-The Stone Roses) and Andy Rourke (ex-The Smiths).

i was extremely lucky to experience peter hook and the light last night at chicago's double door. some fans feel it isnt right to play the songs without ian, and im a loyal fan to the music. but what i feel they are forgetting is that the event wasnt about exploiting joy division. it was about moving forward while looking back. ians life ended in '79 and so did joy division. everyone in the band changed, and in turn they would never play those songs again or experience the emotion and pleasure they could bring to their audience. yes, hooky doesnt sing like ian, no one does, but he loves the music and you can tell he appreciates the fans who stood outside and waited in 7 degree weather to see him. the band The Light is awesome. plus, you will never get tired of watching hooky play bass next to his son. my heart cooed everytime! even if you have reservations, see the show. im hoping hooky has a chance to do this again, but if not... this may be the only time

There is no doubt - Hooky is the man. I met him once during his Revenge phase - at the Subterania in London. I was only 19(?) at the time, so had little of any merit to say to him, apart from the usual - love your work, I'm from New Zealand, can I buy you a beer. Actually, I think I did mention he'd replied to some of my letters (in his own hand writing!) to which he was surprised but said "well, there you go". My fondness for him as a character only grows stronger as I find out more about the man (How Not To Run A Club) etc. There is no debate about how revolutionary & brilliant his bass playing is. JD & certainly NO owe a considerable amount of their uniqueness to him - in my humble opinion.
