PARKA - THE KINGS OF YELLOW AND BLACK (BUMBLEBEES, SLINKIES AND WHATNOT)
LAST.FM WIKI:
Parka are a Scottish indie-electro-dance-pop band from Glasgow, now based in Whitchapel, London. They formed in Feb 2005 when singer/guitarist Matty Thompson grew tired of his studies and decided to make a band, by finding drummer, Neil Johnson, bassist Ian Alexander, keyboardist Mark Hedges and saxaphonist Bob.
In September 2006 they released their debut single
Disco Dancer, complete with balloon video, through the 7" label Worst Case Scenario. This took many by surprise; winning Fresh Meat on Zane Lowe's Radio 1 show and getting playlisted on Xfm. Parka then went from strength to strength touring with Boy Kill Boy, opening for The Automatic and signing to indie label Jeepster.
Shortly after this, saxaphonist Bob departed the band to be replaced by James Craise.
Parka's second single
If You Wanna? was released in April 2007, reaching #11 on the indie chart and being playlisted on both Mtv2 and Xfm. Meanwhile the band were getting more notable support slots with artists such as Switches, The Young Knives and The Enemy; as well as doing their own headline tour.
Parka recorded their debut album in the summer of 2007, shortly after which saxophonist James departed the band, to be replaced by Steve.
Disco Dancer was rereleased in January 2008 and became Alex Zane's single of the week. It received numerous plays on the Zane Lowe show and reached the daily playlist on Xfm Scotland.
Better Anyway was to be the next release in April 2008, soon to be followed in May by debut album Attack of the Hundred Yard Hardman. The tracklisting is as follows:
Bosses and Bastards
Disco Dancer
Mr Optimistic
There's a Riot (Goin' On)
DJ in the Corner (featuring Saffron)
I Don't Wanna Fight You Tonight
Wake Up Call
Stay Away
Better Anyway
Hoxton Hair
If You Wanna?
You're No Geezer (But You Try)
