Suggestions of bands to a new Radio Rivendell compilation

  • Suggestions of bands to a new Radio Rivendell compilation

For those who do not know Radio Rivendell it is the biggest radio station only into fantasy music.

Together with Radio Rivendell we do a series of compilation´s most of all for the love of the genre. We have so far released two albums and for the last one all but two songs were composed specific for the project. Simon Kölle (Za Frûmi, Abnocto, Musterion, etc.) made a short story and we sat down to come with names of chapters. The bands/artists choosed one chapter and without too much information they made their own song inspired by the title and the story.

    http://www.radiorivendell.com/compilations/

There you can see the line ups for the two compilations so far.

Now we are slowly looking for bands/artists for the third installment. A continuation of the second one. We want both established as new acts.

    Here´s a tracklist´s of the two compilations´s:

    14. Project Morfeo - Escape from the Dragons Lair
    15. Morgan the bard - Galdralag
    16. Helen Trevillion - The Mermaid Part I: The Storm

    The book of war:

1 Sully Koba - Captain Angus

    3 Erdenstern - The Reiters
4 Lost Kingdom - The Bridge Gruhdok
5 Markus Holler - The Great March

We are looking to ask some of the bands above again but not even half.

SO, do you guys have any suggestions on bands?

We will not even consider metal bands in any shape or form. The theme is fantasy so please don´t recomend industrial acts either.

  • Sounds ok. I am not all that impressed.
Come on and suggest good music that would fit making music for a dark fantasy setting.

  • Fredrik we know and he is good. We had his project Rising Shadows on a compilation called "Waerloga compilation - A Tribute to Uglakh".

Maybe we should reinvite him. A good idea.

    Keep em comming.

Hm... A bit hesitant to recommend anything now...

But, try Elffor's early work. Most is fantasy ambient, though you will find a metal influenced track or two amidst the ambient. And perhaps Blakagir. Midnight Syndicate might be a little too cheesy, though I don't know for sure.

  • Very good recomendations ChAwech! Phanatos I think I maybe heard before but I had no memory of it. It´s a Swedish project and I don´t know it. Interesting.
Kayno Yesno Slonce also sounded like they would fit the concept.

About using old material - On this compilation everything will be 100% made for this release or at least remixes.

    Thanks

I meant listen to his old material as a guide, but, anyhoo, I'll just bow out.

This might be an unconventional suggestion, but Kitka has some very dark-sounding almost fantasy-related tracks. Check out the sample of Farewell-- a very dark track. More here...

  • RosaCrvx is interesting! Thanks
Coph Nia is to much of modernism and industrial to fit in I think.
Gol Dolan I need to listen more too.

  • Kitka sounded interesting. A bit theatrical in the vocals. I don´t know if the sound was just bad on the samples but óverall the sound mix was lacking a lot.
But some songs were really cool.

I don't know-- I haven't listened to the samples, honestly. I picked up "The Rusalka Cycle" unheard to support a local artist (well, group of artists), and the sound on the CD was fine as far as I could tell. There was something about them that reminded me of an important quest in the dark of night...

Been a bit silent here lately, but....

    Nox Arcana - http://www.noxarcana.com/ & http://www.myspace.com/noxarcana

I kind of forgot about them...

  • Nox Arcana we have JUST taken in to our new expanded website/mailorder. Monolith are a bit hard to work with but they could maybe be something for the compilation. Maybe they don´t feel the need for the compilation though?

Yes a bit silent. If you guys hear anything good on myspace or some other place let me know. We are still looking for bands.

    A couple of suggestions:

    Quentaro - quite lovely neoclassical/ambient http://www.myspace.com/quentaro

Morpheus (not the dark ambient artist listed on the last.fm page: http://lomeanor.net.ru/index/0-5. An album, "Alkemiisto" is released by that netlabel: http://www.archive.org/download/Lnl004Morpheus-Alkemiisto2008192Kbps/Lnl004Morpheus-Alkemiisto192.zip

Honestly, Morpheus isn't probably that "accomplished" but the music is rather interesting with a very dark feel to it. Quentaro's probably my bigger rec out of the pair.
