  I like the idea of the old rockskulsound with the death and doom lyric in "Haritage" mix together. A good experiment. It was difficult to determine to bring back 50 years. On this recording a sound engineer has worked!

  Also, as I am (or at least aspire to be ;P ) a guitar player myself, I have to say I like older Opeth sound (PRS guitars and just enough distortion to make it sound heavy, but still keep the sound selective) much more than what I hear in The Devil's Orchard (apparently Fender Strats and/or Telecasters driven through a fuzz box).

  @an_o: I had to listen to The Devil's Orchard quite a lot of times before I could make my mind, but now I have to say I've mixed feelings about it. On one hand, it's a really good piece of progressive rock, a genre which I like very much. But on the other hand, I'm afraid that if whole Heritage is made of such '70s prog-rock songs I'll miss the heavier parts. For me, the best thing in Opeth's music has always been contrast between soft, melancholic acoustic parts and death metal riffs that come after them. Because of this, I hope Heritage will turn out to be a great progressive rock album, but that it'll be a one off & we'll hear more distorted guitars and growls from Mikael & Co in the future.
