Just reiterating what I originally posted in the shoutbox, Makoo stated that I should probably post the details here in order to keep them a little more visible.

*Note that AMIP is not compulsory or anything like that, these are just the set-ups I use. Feel free to use a barebones client and just talk =)

irssi [www.irssi.org] <--- for Linux and Windows users, note that irssi has no AMIP plugin, and you will have to use Clipboard integration from AMIP configurator. I use the irssi scripts: nickcolor.pl, anames.pl and awl.

mIRC with NoNameScript, AMIP, and mp3ad+ <--- google all of these

Colloquy is great for OS X


AMIP advertising is welcome, AS LONG AS it isn't automatic! I can't stress how annoying it is to be spammed with song names everytime someone changes a song =) - try to moderate how often you advertise =)

Note to new IRC users: chat in IRC channels can be varied, and sporadic - the more users the better. Some of us may be what's called "idling" which means we're not actually on the computer. You can find out how long we've been away by typing in /whois <nickname>

also, try to "idle" with us if there's not much conversation going on, as this will mean a lot of people will end up being present on the channel, and thus some real conversation can start happening. right now there's only about 7 of us who are there regularly.

It wasn't really either of those. I consider myself far from an elitist of any sort. Elitists are disingenuine music fans who cater to what other elitists give the seal of approval. I wouldn't even be an active member of this group if this were the case.

Secondly I have a sense of humor, perhaps an odd one but I can more than take a joke. I just thought I would check out the chat to see what it was all about and the only time anyone even remotely mentioned metal was when whats-his-face kept announcing that he was listening to Nile.

Yeah, IRC isn't always active... if you haven't noticed - you admitted you were completely new to it when you joined. Since you left, we've had numerous new people come and chat and it's great - we've learnt a shitload more about new bands and so forth already... so don't pretend as if you know everything that's being discussed, as you said - you were only there for 5 minutes and don't understand that people "idle" on IRC - so for fucks sake, stfu and don't ruin it for everyone else.

I wasn't trying to ruin it for anyone. Some people will enjoy it, others won't. I'm not one for chatrooms and this one the glimpse that I saw was exactly as I imagined... irrelevant ramblings that had nothing to do with the subject at hand. Just because I didn't enjoy it doesn't mean other people won't. I personally find it as a waste of time but that's just me.
