The day of the gig started off with a mention in Zwanzig Minuten, Zurich's equivalent to the Metro!! It was one of their hot picks for the weekend!
Warm Pulse opened the night, playing 4 songs of his eclectic alt indie rock, with support from some very familiar face!! Kristian was supported by Of The I's Roman Pawar on guitar, and Jordan Davis on the drums!
The Warm Pulse set list included: Overlibrium Run for The Sun Exam
Twenty minutes later Of The I emerged from backstage to a roaring sell-out crowd. They took to the stage with Sebastian Boethius on the keyboard (Alexander's brother), which left Jordan free to interact with the crowd. This made the gig feel so much more intimate, even though it was a bigger gig in everyway (bigger audience, bigger band, bigger set list) I think everyone there connected with Jordan's energy.
Set List: Ascend Stopping the world Glass Window Cold Mudslide Mercenary
Between Being and Ego Cathexis
The gig kicked off with Ascend and Stopping The World, which really set the tone for the whole gig... rock harder than they have rocked before. This was followed by the new version of Glass Window, which I've been waiting to hear ever since they told me it had been considerably changed. And as ever they left me blown away... but I guess you'll have to wait to hear it for yourselves.
There were two songs that for me were the highlights of the gig. One was their newest song, Mercenary. I've been lucky enough to hear the song progress from it's very beginnings but it was the first time I (and the world) have ever heard it live, and I was not expecting it to rock just as much as it did. Of The I fans, you will not be disappointed. The other highlight came after their little break when they came back for the encore. Previously when they've played Between Being and Ego it has been a mix of looped and live sounds, but this gig was the first time they performed it all live, with Sebastian Boethius on the keyboard, and Jordan sitting in front of a drum for the second drum beat. The gig was finished off with a phenomenal performance of Cathexis which really left everyone in a frenzy.
Luckily, Nico was on hand to spin some progressive house (including some of his own work!) till the early morning.
