• I agree with Dologan in every point he made. Generic tags as rock, metal, electronic, etc should be left out and sub-genres are what the chart should focus on.
Also, I rather not have 70s, 80s, etc as a tag, they're not genres. Neither are the national tags. Get rid of them.
Having an option to select what tags to ignore and what tags to merge would be really helpful.

As far as last.fm uses tags for categorizing artist, OMR is highly unreliable. (1) Mistagging, mistagging and one more time mistagging. (2) Many people are unfamiliar with electronic and use this meaningless tag. (3) Some tags aren't genres. Genres should be voted on artists' pages and OMR should be counted from these genres, not tags. It's a very revolutionary idea, so I don't see it coming. :(

I don't support the ignore/merge option. It would allow people to affect OMR according to their requirements and expectations. In that case OMR would be less universal and more individual. I like it when OMR for every user is based on exactly the same tags. Even those non-genres and vague generic tags somewhat reflect our tastes. Allowing people to modify OMR is just unfair.

And just to clarify: I don't mean that getting rid of generic tags and non-genres is a bad idea, no. It can be very helpful, but only if it will applies to all users without exception.

Tag-merging and ignoring should be a user option. That is, the user gets to choose which tags are merged, and which tags are ignored. Much like the scaicha model.

I'm guessing it 'aint gonna happen though based on the earliest request (last year). :D

  • no advertising plz ;) i'm considering various options concerning omr

  • Although I am new to this group, I have a suggestion. And that would be to customize the charts to allow us to hide/show certain tags and the ability to hide the "other" tag on the chart.

  • Please NOT Other

Hi.. first post in this group so please bear with me. :)

Love the concept of OMR... it is a good way of showing how your tastes are
and how eclectic your listening is.. however I do have an issue with the
tag or genre "Other" this takes up 36% of my stats.. PLEASE.. add other
genres like Hard Rock, Progressive Rock.. Soul, Funk, Jazz-Funk.. Groove,
Classic Rock.. Dub Reggae.. etc and so forth.

"Other" doesn't really give much information of the varied tastes that people
    have..

  • I think the tags for 90's, 80's, and so on should be removed. Those aren't genres. Also singer-songwriter and female vocalists are not genres and should be removed. The chart should show more genres rather than having the "other" tag being larger than the genres listed on your chart. The "other" tag should be broken down. And I think "metal" and "heavy metal" should be merged. They are essentially the same thing and makes no sense being separate.

Okay, we've got people up here saying OMR should "ignore" certain tags and merge them into other tags and what have you...come on! Not mentioning how off-putting it would be to exclude what may well be someones favorite genre from the calculation, surely the argument is solveable by simply introducing a "merge/ignore tags" function?

    This.

I think the tag "seen live" should be ignored, since that is not at all related to genre diversity.

  • I'm certainly proposing using something more similar to the www.rateyourmusic.com genre system for these.

  • As much as I worship rym as a decent tool to discover new artists, I find its tagging system still a little inaccurate

  • omr has died forever? :( Did not get to see the charts or anything else. Domain http://omr.musiqum.net/ simply does not work, even there is no DNS record. musiqum.net when you log swear that I have already registered and then nothing happens. :(
