    Got an interesting idea on how to improve OMR? Share it!

  • Hello! it's cool to have a new computer! I do not understand why the other does more for several weeks already! But what I find damage to yours is that it does not carry color to see how it relates! But otherwise it's too cool! :-))))

  • Hi,

    your OMR-project seems to be a good alternative to OMI, thanks for that :)
    I know your're just building up the page, but i hope in "what is OMR?" or somewhere else you'll write some informations like how OMR works, what counts in, how often the chart is updated and not only what it does.

  • I will :) please just give me some time, the most important task for me is now constantly improving the algorithm, introducing new designs etc, and when these will be complete I'll take care of the website :)

  • Do not worry it's already really what you do is cool that you're busy because I would not be able to do all this! Nickel :-)))

    This is what I have already posted in the "omi alternative" group

    The main problem with the OMR is that it calculates the number of users which used a tag. This is very, very bad because a lot of people use popular or pointless tags on an artist, so if you listen to that artist a lot you're screwed and can't use the ignore tag feature either.

  • Hi, thanks for the awesome replacement for OMI!

    Here's some improvements that came in to my mind:

    1. I would like to be able to view the list of the "other" tags.
    2. Would be nice if the tags had colors on their side so I could see which tag is which part of the pie-image.
    3. Black theme
    4. Tags with space have "+" as the space, e.g. "death+metal"

  • Thank you, it looks great, would like to see certain tags left out though, especially the "favorites" tag, which has a tendency to be at 4 %. Very annoying.

    I also think it's possibly better to use the top 50 rather than top 500, but it's a difficult one, but it seems like it's easier to determine who should have high and low OMRs then.

    pirate-pl, are you considering removing the calculation of the number of users which used a tag any time soon? i know a lot of people who would use the OMR if it wasn't from that one thing. it's by far the biggest inconvenience, then it would be the looks but the new green version actually looks good.

  • I'll consider that shortly

    Great!

  • it comes to the point where I start to think that some tags should be filtered out.
    for example: favorites, 90s, awesome, 00s, singer-songwriter
    these tags don't have any information on the genres of music we listen to...

  • A few of those tags are descriptive of the music though, and should not be filtered out, like 90s, 00s and singer-songwriter. They actually give information about the kind of music one listens to, and are tags that can give you a feel of the music taste of someone.

    "favorites" and "awesome" are totally meaningless though, and should be filtered out. I guess "favorites" can give some sort of hint about the degree to which someone listens to hits, for example, but certainly not useful enough to justify it being in the pie. "awesome" is probably even more meaningless.

  • I agree, this is a matter of personal preference.

    also, there are country-tags... but those also have arguable meaning.

  • Finally, OMR got some new themes! Check them out at http://omr.musiqum.net . Apart from 8 default themes (green, red, blue, aqua, high contrast, black and white, beige, orange) there is a "custom" option, where you can specify your own configuration :)

    If you encounter any interesting color combination, please inform me, I'll set them as default.

    current default configurations are:

    'green' = ('00ff00','000000');
    'red' = ('ff0000','000000');
    'aqua' = ('00f6ff','000000');
    'blue_to_black' = ('009cff','000000');
    'beige' = ('490a0a','e5c3c3');
    'high_contrast' = ('ff0000','000cff','2aff00');
    'orange' = ('ff9c00','000000');
    'black_and_white' = ('000000','eeeeee');

  • it is just awesome that everyone can make their own color theme. the best thing is that we can chose morethan 2 colours!

    I enjoy OMR. Good job so far!
    You've made some nice improvements...

    Suggestions:
    * I concur; tags like "favourite" is meaningless, and should be filtered out.
    * The line (with the OMR-score number), should be made shorter?
    Anyhow, the number isn't visible. Only a part of it is...

    I just fixed it. Anyone still experiancing this problem should regenerate his charts.

  • I'm very happy with OMR. :)
    But there's often something to imrpove good things and so here is...
    I'd like to choose which "top xx tags"-percentage is shown in the graph (maybe this information should be displayed to).
    And for the calculation there would be an option nice, to show all your tags if you want, because i can't believe that in all the "top xx tags" the number of tags is the same. In my case that's just 30 tags...
    I think that in "top 20 tags" are less tags than in "top overall tags".
    Maybe all my scrobbled music ist just so similiar that top 20 oder top overall for tags doesn't matter.. don't know... i hope it isn't so. :/

  • I'd love to see an option to save my custom colours. It's useful when you regenerate your OMR. Also, automatic regenerations?

  • this is what I'm just working on. I hope to introduce personal accounts with 10 custom slots soon

  • sweet!

    I think you could consider making the chart larger in width so the longer tags(i.e 'melodic death metal', 'atmospheric black metal', etc) wouldn't overlap the percentages column anymore.
    Maybe provide different options for dimensions of the badge(e.g. "wide" or "skinny").
    Worth remembering that omi chosen dimensions were to fit the shorter space in people's profiles of old last.fm design, but things are different now. =)

    There are many tags with some different variations (e.g. "electronic, electronica", "drum and bass, dnb, d&b, drum'n'bass etc") so "ignore tags" user option will be quite good

    Or merge tags.
