  Novak Djokovic lifted his first US Open trophy and 4th Major after defeating #2 seed and defending champion Rafael Nadal 6-2, 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-1 in 4 hours and 10 minutes.Novak walked into Arthur Ashe Stadium wearing a cap adorned with the New York City fire department logo,paying tribute to 9/11.He improved to 64-2 on the year and confirmed his status as the world's best player."It really sounds unreal.   Nole came back from two sets down and saved two match points to defeat no.3 seed Roger Federer 6-7(7), 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 for a place in the US Open final! The top-seeded Serbian needed 3 hours and 51 minutes. This is Novak’s 10th win out of their 24 matches. "It was definitely the biggest win this year," Djokovic said on court following his victory. "One of the biggest wins of my career.I had to take my chances. I was very close to being on my way back home. He was serving, 40-15 up. I got a little bit of energy from the crowd, and I fought back. I needed to stay positive, and I definitely didn't want the French Open to happen again.   Nole is through to his fifth career US Open semi-finals! Top-seeded Novak Djokovic came through his toughest test so far at Flushing Meadows on Thursday, winning his quarter-final match against fellow Serbian and world no.20 Janko Tipsarevic. Nole was leading 7-6(2), 6-7(3), 6-0, 3-0 when Janko decided to retire due to injury after 3 hours and 27 minutes. "Congratulations to Janko for a fantastic tournament and a great effort today," Nole said in his oncourt interview. "He's a great friend of mine and it was not easy to play against him today. I sensed when I made a break in the third set that he lost a lot of pace on his first serve and was not able to move so well." "But it's the first test I've had this tournament and it was expected.I was aware of his quality.Davydenko is a great player,he knows how to play majors.He went out there and played his game,very aggressive.I think I was a little bit too defensive at the start and that's why I was missing a lot of balls from the forehand side.But when I needed to adjust I did and I got crucial breaks each set.The third set was better." "The first two sets were ideal," said Novak. "I could not play better. I was getting a lot of balls back, I was ending the points when I needed to. I was making a lot of winners. My serve was okay, and my return was great. I felt fantastic out on the court. There's not much I can say when everything just seems fun and enjoyable out there. I played good tennis, tried to win. On the other hand, we tried to engage the crowd. It was nice. A lot of entertainment. Long, attractive points, the through-the-leg shot and things like that. The world no.1, who has nine titles to his name in 2011, is looking to win his third Grand Slam title of what has been a remarkable season. His record now is 58-2. About his shoulder injury, Nole said: “After Cincinnati I took some time off, and I did everything in order to recover the shoulder. Today I didn't feel any pain. I served well and I played well, so I have no concern. I think I've played well for these 45, 50 minutes that we had on the court. It's unfortunate for my opponent, obviously. He had food poisoning he told me after the match. But I felt great on the court, and that's something that's really important for the start of the tournament.” Nole will next take on world no.74 Carlos Berlocq. Djokovic and Berlocq have never met before.

Djokovic won that one 6-2, 6-1, but Monfils was a much tougher competitor today and Nole needed to put more effort to book his place in the last four at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event.
