For those who feel that (Neo)folk music should be free of racism and neo-nazism, both in terms of tendencies within the scene and stigmas from outside.
Neofolk music, traditional symbols, alternative pagan religions, and so forth, all have, in principle, nothing to do with racism and neo-nazism. But sadly, many neo-nazis choose to associate themselves with these things. At the same time, symbols used in neofolk and heathen music are interpreted wrongly by outsiders and anti-fascist groups. This gives members of the neofolk scene and heathens an unwanted and unnecessary political stigma.
It's time to spread the word and take things back to where they belong. We want to be able to enjoy neofolk without accepting unwanted political elements in our scene, and without wrongfully being stigmatised by uninformed outsiders.
We encourage cultural pride and love of heritage, but do not condone blind hatred of other groups.
We feel that awareness and open discussion is the best way to relate ourselves to the image of the genre, and to change it, if necessary.
Of course, this group is also for just discussing neofolk music and culture! Be welcome!
[Note: this group, or the artist list, is not meant as a guide to whether a person or an artist is 'wrong' or 'OK'. In other words, we are neither a blacklist, nor a whitelist, where people could determine the political affiliation of a person or artist.]
