Group Updates (If you're a new member, This is what you missed)

    Admin updates:
5/11/11: Categorized all the tracks I had using excel with the "export playlist" function on iTunes. Deleted mixtape tracks and repeats from the list. Also wrote a journal regarding mixtape titles for those collectors out there.

5/12/11: Wrote 10 journals regarding Nas' work and hyperlinked all the artists who collaborated. Waaay too lazy to hyperlink all the songs because of alternate spelling issues, especially with freestyles and unreleased material that DJs misname.

I tried embedding youtube videos first but there's waaay too many tracks I listed (even with the separate journals!) and the whole browser just starts lagging...so I did links...last.fm did some strange thing so that you can't open the links in a new window so you have to copy the links over to a new tab without losing your place in the journal...do that or hit the back button once you're done viewing the video (favorite it!)

5/13/11: AT THIS POINT IN TIME, THIS PAGE CARRIES MORE INFORMATION REGARDING UNRELEASED MATERIAL, SINGLE COVERS, AND RARE TRACKS NAS FEATURED ON THAN WIKIPEDIA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nas_discography)...I do have an account but wikipedia always delete more than 75% of the articles I create due to the lack of legitimate references even though the tracks I write about has physical proof on youtube...recently, the article with 2 pages of writing regarding Nas' 10th studio album was deleted from wikipedia because of insufficient references. Obviously there are rumors such as this but it has long been dismissed. Currently, the album is on standstill because Nas wants to release Lost Tapes Vol 2 but Def Jam is giving Nas a lowered advance ($200,000). Now, Nas plans to work on a new album because most of his unreleased work has been leaked anyways and give out Lost Tapes vol 2 free as a bonus disk. Since 2007, Nas fans are waiting for that Nas album with strictly DJ Premier beats. Since Premo is currently working with christina aguilera on her album, Nas would have to wait.

...so, I'm writing everything here cuz there's a slimmer chance of my writings getting deleted

5/14/11: Imported mixtape pictures on the last journal and received feedback on layout and formatting. Connected the group to similar artists and started advertising the group for new members
5/15/11: changed group picture to something more authentic from to

5/16/11: uploaded the songs I listed but couldn't find on youtube

5/17/11 - Present: To those hanging on the fence about joining: as long as there are undiscovered/new Nas tracks out there, I will continue to update this group - providing track names and links on youtube. (don't worry, I'm not a spammer - I only give out UPDATES if there's a batch of 20+ undiscovered rare Nas tracks or 10+ new Nas tracks)...

According to the "death of escobar" mixtape, "Afterlife" is actually "Who U Rep With ft Nas & Bravehearts"...that's quite surprising because the track was supposed to be a sequel to "Undying Love" which was on some Steven Spielberg shit where Nas killed his wife who cheated on him, cops came and he committed suicide. "After Life" was supposed to be a reflection of how the 1st scene took place, repentance, and some next level shit saying that his Escobar mafioso persona died and how he came back to just being Nas. If anyone has any whereabouts of that track. Let us know. Here's the intro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDX9zVGxKtE

Link updates to the tracks listed (installment 2)

Our group made the Nas Page! whoooooo

It's only been a couple days since my last message and I've gotten quite a bit of responses regarding...well, Nas - what did you expect? haha. (especially with tracks I didn't know about/forgot to list)

I appreciate the positive feedback and support. Some of y'all even went as far as claiming that you would rather get spammed by new/rare Nas material (from the first installment I sent out), which is hilarious to me - but on the contrary I'm gathering as much material as I can before sending these installments to keep the messages to a minimum.

First of all, the sequel to "Undying Love" exists under a different name: "Amongst Kings," where Nas transcended life and religion to become Nastradamus, the thug prophet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cET_IRLcJI

Apparently, the "Library of a Legend" mixtape series goes up to 6. Other MIXTAPES (I found out recently) with exclusive material: "Unreleased & Rare" (Not to be confused with "Rare and Unreleased") and "The Resurrection" (not to be confused with "The N...The Resurrection of Hip Hop") - yes, I know it's confusing...mixtape DJs need to come up with unique titles the same way Nas come up with unique rhymes. Shout out to Ivan from the Hip Hop Is Read blog for the "Hood Opulent" compilation mixtape. http://escobartheory.blogspot.com/ is also another good website to visit - the dude transcribed quite of bit of Nas' freestyles.

    crème de la crème:

Eye For An Eye Freestyle/Desert Storm freestyle (Jay-Z Diss)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccsciGmF5nI
"you can't B.I. (Be I)" -- Ohh man...whooo, using improper grammar to say that Jay-Z aka "Lucky Lefty" can't be [Nas] or B.I.G.!
"I said it first, you repeated" -- "Dead Presidents" and "The World Is Yours."

Takes More Than What You Got To Kill Me/In Between Us (Alternative Verse) ft Jay-Z
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgaL8H1TZhg
Mick Boogie mixed this...still don't know where original Jay-Z verse came from but this was the original Nas verse that was scrapped

    Street Dreams (alternate 3rd verse)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zc1okng0C7o

Watch Dem Niggas (alternate 3rd verse)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2niwOc5ae4

"John Blaze (Original Nas verse) ft., Jadakiss, Raekwon & Fat Joe" Big Pun

don't body ya self w/o Game
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fu-1y_8m97Y
I forgot there were like 8 versions of the same song

    QB To VA ft Quan
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9okBuG7HtCE
didn't know that Nas rhymed a Weezy beat...I always thought it was the other way around...GO DJ! cuz that's my, cuz that's my...I guess this was back in Tha Carter I days

Exhibit C (Hasan Insane Remix) (feat. Jay Electronica)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNVUBI4c6to
Nice intro from Pulp Fiction...Still waiting for a legit Jay Electronica-Nas collabo... "Queens get the money" doesn't count cuz Jay Elektra wasn't on the vocals..probably gonna happen on Nas' 10th album

    Locked Up (blend) Akon
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epk_bwaJRtc
might remind you the beat of Ol' dirty bastard's "No more (unreleased)" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdtPmjAsmD0 if you're from the east coast or Xzibit's "The Foundation" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4s3yQBgiQaY if you're from the west coast

"Three Messages" Tupac & Obie Trice
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCS0UWNu8Ys

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkVkfECzWFE
same Nas verse, some dude just jumped on the (street dreams remix) beat later

Nas & De La Soul 1996 Freestyle

    verse from the second coming

    Black Stacey (remix) Saul Williams
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-WopEZUh4s
beat's sick, yo...but the other dude's verse is kinda embarrassing actually, on the 5th listen and the 2nd listen of the original track, I got into it and got the message...was disappointed that some of the more potent lines didn't make the remix

    3rd installment of link updates

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to undermine Nas' whole operation by leaking his material. I am simply documenting everything so Nas' work can properly get acknowledged by the hip hop community. Plus, I buy all his albums - as if that wasn't already a given.

If you're a new member: welcome, welcome...click here for the 2 installment...for those here since day one, please bare with me - I just have too much info to air out....save this message for a rainy day.

I did my fair share of digging this time around and I found a provocative stanza only "hardcore" Nas fans would appreciate. [Located at THE SECOND HALF of this message, marked in RED and in a box]

My youtube channel that I use to upload the tracks I couldn't find on youtube received a warning today (of all the contraband tracks, They disabled my Madlib remix of "Street Dreams" - I mean, really? c'mon son!), so I'm posting under my backup channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/jensyao5 - if you didn't know, all the usernames w/ prior numbers were also taken by me but were banned)

Nas in 2005 actually endorsed "The Living Legends Vol 1" Mixtape hosted by DJ Dirty Harry - meaning that there are EXCLUSIVE material in the mixtape with Nas on "non-tranquil" beats. This is partially the reason why there's no Nas "Rap Phenomenon" mixtape (also hosted by DJ Harry in addition to Vlad and Green Lantern). Nas and Green later did a mixtape together. I found 5 verses and 1 stanza I haven't heard before.

If you didn't catch it, Nas is doing a special on ESPN so check your local listings for the rerun. If you are from another country, wait til someone posts the documentary on youtube just like they uploaded the Fab Five. Why is this relevant?

Check out Nas sporting a Michigan hat and C-Webb produced "Blunt Ashes" and "Surviving The Times." Nas mentioned Webber on his Detroit 98 FM Freestyle.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FhXAl14LuA
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2qZbpxN6pw
The original had cormega instead of Nature even tho Foxy still shout outs to Cormega in her final verse...Nas wrote all of Foxy's verses during this time so listen to Foxy and pretend it's Nas. In case you forgot, Cormega had a beef with Nas because the contract 'Mega was going to sign to do the "Firm Album" gypped him so he left and then in came Nature - the incohesiveness of the group caused the "fiasco to flop"

"Stretch Armstrong's 2nd most embarrassing moments as a white DJ in the Rap Game: DJing for Nas on the radio show (89 Tech Nine, NYC) and playing a brand new instrumental of Large Professor's remix of Gang Starr's "Gotta Get Over." It was a test pressing so the record skipped and Nas sonned me. He told me, "you better get it on time, kid." I was mortified" - Ego Trip's Big Book of Rap Lists (1998) <- great book

The Unreleased Stanza is something else!
Here's a full article about it to get you into perspective http://escobartheory.blogspot.com/2006/04/sugarman.html

"At church on my hand was a preacher's blood
Swallow dirt from a graveyard in need of love
    I vomit blunt residue
    I want revenue
    Dreaming
    And pump lead at you
Devils trying to take my freedom
It drove me crazy the day I drank my own urine
    My own semen
With a .9 to my brain
but wait a sec, give me time to explain..." [second verse]

Live at the Barbecue (harry mix) + Original Unreleased Stanza
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xjz7uJjgKyE
Nas basically re-recited his verse from Live At the Barbecue but added his unreleased stanza with his "1991 vocals"

    "Rap radioactive
    Attractive, hyperactive
I drop bombs, my rhymes are massive
    I work fantastic, realistic
My raps are drastic, not simplistic"

In case you didn't already know: For Will Smith, Nas co-wrote "Get Jiggy Wit It," "Yes Yes Y'All," "Chasing Forever," "Just Cruisin'" off the "Men In Black" soundtrack. "women used to tease me / give it to me now nice and easy / since I moved up like George and Weezy." "Miami" follows the same template of "Jiggy," with a couple double rhymes and a bizarre shoutout to Sly Stallone being especially Nas-like, so maybe it counts as as ghostwriting as well. ...you didn't think I was going to end it like that, right?
    Here's some optional 'homework'

Tracks & Audio Files Still in The Hunt:

    citation: http://escobartheory.blogspot.com/2006/08/in-vaults.html
I Couldn't find the following tracks...maybe one of you Internet-savvy-google-boolean-search-engine-experts could help me out
Don't worry, according to many sources and accounts, there quite a bit of Nas material STILL HEAVILY guarded behind vaults. These just skim the surface:

Livin' the Life (Studio Version) (Pre-1994)
...we got the freestyle version over 'young black and gifted,' 'nobody beats the biz,' 'you gots to chill' beats: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkzhJznONHQ ...of course, there's times when Nas just recited what's on the album for his freestyle promotions but there's quite of bit of Nas verses that only exists as freestyles...and then when Nas caught wreck on the air, that was the end of the joint and we couldn't hear the whole verse, but then Nas started recording his freestyles as legit studio tracks around 2004, most notably with "Foul Breeze"

    I Got Game (1994)
    ...unreleased Nas from Illmatic era

    Fahrenheit (1994)
    ...confirmed by DJ Low Key

    Verbal Intercourse Pt 2 (1995)
...Nas dropped 4 verses before choosing "through the lights camera glamour glitters and gold" verse as the final...RZA might have recorded the other Nas' verses on a separate beat - confirmed by Chef a.k.a. Raekwon

It Was A Lady Cop Sucking A Thug’s Dick, It Was Some Thug Shit, Some Bug Shit (1996)
...samples Brethren's Inside Love immortalized by A Tribe Called Quest on "Electric Relaxation." - confirmed by L.E.S.

? Untitled ft. Method Man and D'Angelo (1996)
...Escobar Season Begins and distributed it to media outlets and mixtapes. Apparently, Method Man never showed up and Nature ended on the making of "Shootouts"...the alternate verse of shootouts was later released

    Detroit's 98 FM Freestyle (1996-7)
...The transcribed verse is here, but no audio

"Look at these clowns that be coming at me
Pac showed 'em how it was done in Makaveli
    Exactly . . .
    who wanna attack me?
When y'all done with the dumb ish, we could break bread
I show you young black brothers how to get ahead
You think I'm not Mr. Entrepreneur
But every time I step out a car, it's from a Bentley door
And that's been happening since '94
And y'all don't see me talking crack and raw
I hang with gangstas, the kind you never seen before
Or on Lear jets with Webber, no discussions of rap
We talk about American lives that were lost in Iraq
Talk about American lives that were lost in the hood
Al Green ballads and how shit'd never be like it was
Pop bottles for my brothers in prison
Pop bottles for my girls who . . ."

..."According to a legendary story, Nas was once such a potent freestyler that after spitting for some time in the company of Biggie, Biggie just had to shrug and say, "there's no way I can follow that." Blunted by time though, nowadays you'd hardly suspect that was ever true of Nas. As an example, during a recent visit to Detroit's 98 FM, the rapper quickly stumbled on a pre-written verse. Now, a dope freestyler hardly ever equals a dope overall rapper, but it would still be nice to see signs of what once had B.I.G. so shook."

On the Ave (?) (Prod. Large Professor)
    ...confirmed by Large Professor

    The Curse (full track) (1999)
...the snippet exists...The second verse of the alleged full track was redone on a Killah Priest record "The Saints"

Ghetto Prisoners Pete Rock remix (1999)

    Ether (Uncut version) (2001)
..."I killed him, even when I scaled it back" - lost stanza regarding the conflict between Jay-Z, Big Pun, and a certain Cristal Bottle...now that I think of it, the last verse on Ether did end quite abruptly

You Can't Stop Me (Kanye West produced) (2001)
...never made it to Stillmatic, because Kanye sided with Jay-Z...btw, Kanye did a remix to k-i-s-s-i-n-g (1999), which exists - but sucks...

Kids Have All the Fun (2000-01)

The General Pete Rock remix (2001)

    Nas & Prodigy - Roc Them 2 Sleep (Jay-Z Diss) (2001-2)

From Alternate tracklisting of God's Son:

    Fuck Hot (2002)

? Untitled (Produced by Psycho Les of the Beatnuts) (2002)

    Crabs In The Barrel (2002)
...a.k.a. Doo Rags? It's in the lyrics

    Grimey Ways ft Nashawn (2002)
    ..confirmed by Nashawn

From Alternate tracklisting of Street's Disciple:

I Am Somebody ft Diddy (2004) - confirmed by pictures w/ diddy during the making of the double LP

    Get Up (2004)

    Titillating (2004)

    sun factor (2004)

    Bachelor Party (2004)

    Message for the boys (2004)

If the world was mine (2004)

    The Fear (2004)
...a.k.a. "The Fear of Mandango?" a.k.a. "The Fear of The Black Man's Dick?" (exists)

    the household roach (original) (2004-6)
...Confirmed to Be "Project Roach" (feat. The Last Poets) (2008)

play on playa (original version) (2004)
...Later to feature Snoop Dogg in 2006

    Bomb First - Nas/Cassidy collabo (2005)
...didn't make it on Cassidy's album, instead "Can't Fade Me" exists

From Hip Hop Is Dead Alternative tracklisting:

There was going to be a track called "war" on back to back albums (HHID & SD)...I think it got moved to DJ Clue's The Professional Pt 3

New York Stomp (Prod. Salaam Remi)
...stadium-like strings and drums. With Nas striking a bit venomous, apparently the stadium setting takes on an especially Roman coliseum feel. - FADER

    The other Jay-Nas Collabos
According to XXL, Jay-Z and Nas "knocked out three songs in one night, and one is making HHID"

    Death Anniversary (w/ unreleased 3rd verse) (2005)
Nas is not a 2-verse rapper...He's definitely setting up a 3rd verse that's even more profound

? Untitled (produced by Pharrell & the Neptunes)
...Nas bought this beat for a cool $2 million...maybe it was for Kelis?

    ? untitled (2006)
..."I'm almost done [working] on a Queens anthem with another big Queens dude." - XXL...there's too many Queens artists to know who it is

White Man's Paper ft Damian Marley (2006) (a.k.a. War?)
..."the politics of warfare" w/ some new "African Dude" - Rolling Stone
I was surprised that this didn't get released in 2008 along with the other controversial "reverse/anti racism" tracks...or in 2010, when his side kick was Damien Marley...but then, I remembered a certain black preacher had a famous speech paraphrased to along the lines of "do not blame the white man for your current situations and rise up out of it"...so Nas probably took that into consideration and instead of blaming the White man, he instead uplifted his own race by talking about black pride on the "Distant Relatives" album...Props, but true Nas fans still want the track!

Apparently, some of the lyrics was transcribed but the audio is no where to be found about "White Man's Paper" - whether it's about the news'paper'/media or money

    "I'm a white man's paper
    brown by nature
    green with envy
    down to the red veins
    within me
    built on blood stains
    my frame
    is wood grain
    wit traces of cocaine
    from rollin' with coke fiends
    the game
    changed
    my name
    to Cream like Alcinder
    dreams paint the pictures
of places where I'll send ya,"

The reason for Nas' album covers
    http://escobartheory.blogspot.com/2006/07/deep-covers.html
From a boy (illmatic) to a kid (it was written) to a pharaoh (I am..) to a prophet (nastradamus) w/ the bridge in the background as influence
Then, in the post 9/11 NY (stillmatic), there is a flood in the background and the pigeon symbolizes that Nas is Noah since he has to send the pigeon out to find land (when the flood is over)...for God's son, there is the flood in the background and Nas is bare, without the accessories such as the jewelery and clothing...there are 2 pigeons in Nas' hands for the back cover of God's Son. Street's Disciple's full scale picture has 12 Nas' with Nas as King...it gets pretty complicated with the constellations so I suggest you read it...Nas probably read The Da Vinci Code cuz the movie didn't come out yet.

    News updates. (4th installment)

New members, welcome. People who joined the group since day 1, hope you weren't overwhelmed by my last group update

R.I.P. Gil Scott-Heron, known as 'The Godfather of Rap.' You can read about the man and his tributes. Nas and Mos Def also did their tribute for the artist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMv5CG-rEss

Nas is going to perform Illmatic at the Rock the Bells Concert '11

Hopefully, Nas doesn't forget any of his complex lines on stage like he's notoriously known for doing...

    Nas' 10th album title:

My opinion: either this is referring to that line: “I like to celebrate/, why?/ - ‘cause I can vision collages and images of my life/with no regrets to hate/” or Nas needs to get reminded of that hunger, that plight to make his rhymes tighter and his lines slicker...who knows? Nas may pull a Deja Vu on us

Somehow, I think that album title is not going to fly because listen to his interview in 2008
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Gv4s7JN08k
@0:48 "I felt like Life is Good and everything is good, but every time everything is too good, nahmean? it wakes you up, something wakes you up and you get reminded of the ugliness out here, man"

@1:14 and @4:03: there WAS a recording of Pac "when I seen this nigga Nas, I swear to god, 'I was like yo, wassup Nas, yo this east coast-west coast thang, yo it's not about you - don't get caught up in it I swear to god yo, we got nothing but love for you'" and the recording is off the 2Pac Duets mixtape...after Biggie Duets dropped. another recording on it was of Nas "I can remember Howard-Homecoming, runnin into 2Pac - handing him a bottle of hennessey and him turning it upside down and that magic has never left my mind - so for me to make a song called 'i gave you power' about me being a gun and then 2Pac put out 'me and my girlfriend' - that was amazing to me. I saw my influence on them because they influenced me - Greatly!"

Analyze This (1999) Nas ft. Jay-Z & Lord Tariq
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHEcd80ZxvM
If you ask someone about the Black Republican Nas / Jay-Z track, they might tell you that's not really the first collaboration between the two rappers; next, they would point to something called Analyze This. However, what they're referring to is actually a blend. The story goes that NBA center Shaquille O'Neal was assembling material for his 1996 release Can't Stop The Reign. He then brought in the Trackmasters who eventually enlisted their comrade Nas to lay down some vocals. Nas obliged, spit an Esco-inspired verse but then ran into some issues. Either there were money holdups or personality disagreements, whatever, but he soon dropped out, and Jay-Z, coming off the release of Reasonable Doubt, was brought in as a replacement. Subsequently, it was only years later, with Shaq completely edited out but Lord Tariq, also on the original, still there, that Nas and Jay-Z's raps were paired together.

*it's not like Nas just gained publicity recently, it's just that all the interviews before the internet blogs and youtube commentaries are rare. Plus, most of the interviews went straight to magazines and books. Rare footage and audio from the past are just hard to find and unlikely to resurface.

from J-Love's "Nas' Finest part 7" mixtape, there are tracks called 'foot soldiers' and 'afro beat' I haven't heard about...but you know mixtape DJs are known to change the name of song titles on purpose to attract attention...like, how are you going to rename "I have to" to "Desert Eagle Mouthpieces?"...it's confusing the listeners

..not to get carried away but eminem tried to emulate Nas' and AZ's styles as early as '96 for his 'infinite' album..not to mention Jay-Z's dead presidents

Nas did videos for "These Are Our "Heroes" and "UBR (Unauthorized Biography of Rakim)" snippet:
    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x42r8a_nas-unauthorized-biography-of-rakim_music

I wish that "I Am..." the supposed double disk was reissued with all of its previously unreleased tracks for its 10th anniversary for 2009. 2011 marks the 10th anniversary of "Stillmatic," but Nas and Jay-Z, Prodigy, Cormega patched it up so if it were to be reissued with a remix, "Ether" and "Destroy and Rebuild" wouldn't be on it. Plus, both those albums were on Nas' previous label, so Nas wouldn't have rights to the Masters unless there were to be some heavy negotiations.

    To quote Rah Digga:
"I think he tried to step outside the box too much musically there. I don’t like when he does the 'I’m not trying to make music by everyone else’s standards'. I just want to hear him rhyme."

Because Nas named his next album "Life is Good" it means that there's no restricting concept per se that Nas has to follow. As Nas fans, it's already a given that every topic (either abstract or concrete) that Nas rhymes about is dope, with or without the message - so the openmindedness of the album would probably work well to bring all the creativity out. ...that's why the abstract definitions of Illmatic and Stillmatic album titles worked so well - Nas defines what those words meant in the track listing. Nas defined what the phrases "It Was Written," "God's Son," "Nastradamus," "Street's Disciple," and "[He Is]..." meant to him even though the individual words themselves already gave you slight clues of what the albums were about before you heard them - which is alright, but the songs about tangents and unrelated topics were held in the vaults or later leaked. "Hip Hop" for HHID and "Nigger" was already defined by other people before him and Nas had to more or less converge to pre-existing definitions - which probably took more time because of the research/literature reviews and concepts that had to be covered such as 'where are they now' and 'fried chicken.' "Hip Hop Is Dead" was a provocative title to the community and even though the track listing successfully defined was hip hop meant to Nas, artists such as Jeezy who took the title the wrong way later heard the album's message, reached out, and reconciled. "Nigger," on the other hand, had excess political slander because of the election year, threats of $80 million withdraws, calls from the white house and congress,...the list goes on. As Nas said '[he is] still in a musical prison, in jail for the flow' and the tracks that were already made for the album had to be cut and later leaked because his creativity was severely hindered - especially when his goal is to have his message heard far and wide by making his album available for vendors to carry. Hopefully, what I said is right regarding Nas' 10th album - the more abstract the album title, the more creative it's going to be.

    My 2 cents

People do ask for my opinion every now and then but as of now, I see that Nas went hard on his "Nasty" track - I'm not really concerned with how the album is going to turn out because I'm buying it regardless. The beat to "Nasty" brought back that 90's flava - I did listen to it quite a bit of times, as seen on my last.fm profile but as of right now, I'm not yearning to relisten to it because I basically memorized it. Off the top of my head, several quotables include: "silent rage/pristine in my vintage shades/I am not in the winters of my life or in the beginning stage/I am the dragon...maserati pumpin biggie the great legend...the actress who played faith evans/my jackie onassis dig/i'm so high, i never land like mike jackson's crib/best of 45/still crack your ribs/sacrilege talk trash about the nasty kid"...lol, 2 weeks from Nas withdraw and I could still recite the whole thing...

Beat-wise, we need some beats by 9th wonder (above) and some c-sick beats (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jfj1ikYhsqs)...imo, the best way for a fan to shout out to Nas and give him guidance/influence his new album is through excessive twitter shout outs with "@nas" and "#asknas" "#illmatic" hashtags.

    11th Installment

What's good fam? What's good, new members? For previous updates, click Here

    Aaliyah

It's been a while, I know - I've been working on a new group for Aaliyah because of her 10th anniversary of her death with http://www.last.fm/user/Sandy07 and http://www.youtube.com/user/ItsAzzIzz

    connection between Nas and Aaliyah

    Used about the same beat:

    Aaliyah

    Choosy Lover
    http://youtu.be/QL9NXNDYT3Q

    Nas

    Street Dreams w/R Kelly
    http://youtu.be/H3hgOqHnWlo

    Sinful Living
    http://youtu.be/ToZESD23rpU

How did this happen? Nas' original beat to street dreams sounded like 2Pac's Ambitionz az a ridah so on remix, the beat changed and had R Kelly on the chorus. Well, R Kelly was Aaliyah's mentor at the time and the interpolated beat happened to be leftover from Aaliyah's first album. Do you see the connection? I just bridged the R&B Queen of Urban Pop to the Braveheart of Hip Hop.

Later, collaborated on "You Wont See Me Tonight" on "I Am..."
    http://youtu.be/06bUoBG4-pg

that's just a tip of the iceberg...so, stay tuned for that. so, if you have any suggestions/concerns/tips or would like to offer some help because of your prior knowledge or dedicated work ethic, we can do a collaboration over the internet in order to speed up the process.

    dropbox

I wasn't clear on what dropbox is about, but basically, I've made two sets of music playlists that I would like to share exclusively with group members. So if you would go here https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTI4MTI0MTA1OQ and watch the video on what it's about, I would appreciate it. Basically, with the referral link above, you'll get 250MB more storage space in addition to the 2.25 GB that you already have to store and share your stuff safely online.

    concert footage?

there's been a lot of nas footage online regarding his recent concerts. If someone could compile the best footage and the best audio from the shows and send it to me, I would greatly appreciate it and give you a shout out. Otherwise, search for it on youtube. (sorry, too much to do at the moment)

    Enrichment Bonus

If you hear a rare track with really good lyrics and you can't seem to find the transcribed lyrics anywhere: first of all, the songs might have the wrong title. So, your best bet is to transcribe a segment of the lyrics and look it up to match it with the artist. It might take you a couple tries to get the lyrics especially if you don't have a good ear for it. The last resort is to transcribe it yourself and submit it to a lyrics site and have other people correct the lyrics after you.

The trick to efficiently transcribe the lyrics if your typing words per minute is sub-par is to open up window media player (I'll wait til the groans subside). Anyways, import the track and let it play. Right click the big 'play button' and you will see options for you to choose speed. Depending on the version you have, you can choose 'slower' or '0.5x speed.' The vocals might be distorted upon elongation but it's easier to type the lyrics out to the speed that they're rapping for people especially like Twista or Bone Thugs N Harmony. I mean, there are other programs that allow you to isolate the instrumental or the vocal overlays or the acapella itself, but for the sake of simplicity - this is one of the better options. If you own a mac, I think quicktime pro allows you to adjust the speed of the track.

I usually get all the lyrics transcribed around the 3rd listen at 0.5x speed, unless there're words that are made up, ghetto termanologied out, or they mumbled. I'm decent when picking up basic foreign language like "savoir-faire" and "c'est la vie" when nas rhymed "foul breeze."

Other tips I have for transcribing lyrics is to type it out in wordpad or notepad and then import it into Word to spell-check later for the sake of not wasting time. Obviously, Word would also pick out grammar errors and the green underline and the autocorrect get on my nerves sometimes.

Once you're done transcribing, google 'lyrics' and submit the lyrics to the top 10 google hits. I think I have at least 20 lyrics-website accounts. The reason you want to do this is because you want to show your effort. Google is an evolving website that give you the top hit depending on number of views, among other factors. It took you, what, 20 minutes to transcribe the lyrics? Well, if your correct lyrics end up not being the number 1 visited site on google, then your efforts seem useless. Well, to make your mark on internet history, write your username to say that you did it. Plus, submitting the lyrics 10 more times by copy-paste is an easier process compared to the actual transcription work.

    Enrichment Bonus 2

At the moment, I'm in the rough drafts of writing my own philosophy on how to look at life, perspectives, mind states, and how to look at negative things to take them positively and vice-versa. I mean, if you're interested in that jazz, I could probably send it out in the next installment. I mean, I didn't read up on anything in particular except for that Ice-T book I was talking about but it just kinda came to me and I was able to write it down and articulate some of the points. I mean, I could be not necessarily right because I'm still human - I do make mistakes and have parts that are overly simplified. I mean, I been just applying the beta-phase of it for a week now and it's been working. I can't say that any of my thoughts are uniquely mines so I might as well share it. Paraphrasing Einstein, the trick to creativity is hiding your sources. Jokingly, if I ever become famous, I'll probably write it out in my book but for the time being, I don't know if I should release it. aiiight, get back at me about that.

    Have a good day.

    Enrichment Bonus

If you can't get access to Nas CDs, create an ebay account and buy them from the 'top-rated seller.' It's usually cheaper and depending on their seller rating, you should be able to trust that the CD you buy is genuine and new. You have to pay close attention to reading the description because they do sell vinyl, promo singles, eps, and other merchandise. If you were to pick a stetchy vendor, they might gyp you off and try to sell you the burnt copy. If you read correctly of the descriptions, you shouldn't have a problem. The benefits of ebay is that it's tax-free. Even though you are buying from the middle-man, they usually get their merchanise at the wholesale price and in order to compete with the retail store price, they lower their profit margin and try to sell the product cheaper. If you can wait, the prices usually get lower after the release date and sellers on ebay would rather try to sell the CD for no profit than to have the CD in their possession - their goal is to convert the product back into money, obviously more money would be better but the converting the product to the same amount of money that they started with could suffice, otherwise. Also, watch out for traps like the shipping option: they get to choose the hidden shipping fee. So, you can't buy a CD for 1 cent and pay $17 dollars for shipping - it doesn't make sense...watch out for that. Customer service and refunds should be okay within 30 days. You might have to buy something small from ebay to test how the process works.

Paypal is the usual currency option on ebay. Depending if your computer have antivirus and malware detectors to find keyloggers, try not to type your credit card or personal information on public computers. There are several ways to activate a paypal account and I think I did mines a long time ago with the bank routing number. https:// websites are secure (unless you have key loggers, malware or other viruses) and you don't have to retype your personal info every time using paypal.

What's good fam? What's good, new members? For previous updates, click Here

We got a month til the album drops and some of y'all are restless - I know I am. Well, I don't have an exact cure, but in the meantime, try to look up some stand up comedy to get your mind preoccupied. I was looking up some Paul Mooney like http://youtu.be/jl_YXYbtksk and http://youtu.be/AbkWvS9ifYg (I finished all of Richard Pryor's work a year ago). You know, Dave Chappelle was one of the driving forces on why Nas wanted to name his last album title...so I started uploading Dave Chappelle material on a separate channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/notonlineson/videos (given that they weren't blocked by youtube).

I'm also thinking about making a mixtape of all of Nas' rare verses that never made it on his album and uploading it on datpiff. I might need some help on the cover art - I know it's a superficial thing to do, but the cover art for the mixtape needs to look like the mixtape itself wasn't half-assed for those superficial people out there. I mean, I made this group after all so what better way to promote the album than a mixtape? I haven't seen any major DJ take on that role of promoting Life Is Good other than DJ Lennox about a year ago. Also, Nas intentions of not making a mixtape but by having himself featured bypasses the whole process for publicity. Then again, the luggage of notoriety that fans who think Nas is selling out with wack artists he shouldn't even have collaborated in the first place has its valid points so give the people what they want. The intentions of Nas can be best summarized by Steve Stout: http://youtu.be/_dps5tBPXvY?t=3m7s

NAS TALKS 'LIFE IS GOOD,' WANTING EMINEM AND JAY-Z FOR "DAUGHTERS (REMIX)"
    http://www.vibe.com/node/97343
oh shit, did this article just get your hopes up?

Nas has been popping up on a bunch of review websites and I don't want to link you to all of them because that's cumbersome and repetitive. Listen to the album and make your own judgement. Nas is not a trend follower but a trendsetter in some respect so you might have to have an open mind when listening to a non-cookie-cutter album. I would suggest that you not multitask and maybe listen to the album right before you go to sleep so that your subconscious can link emotions and imagery from the lyrics and remix them into a dream.

There's more Live versions of the songs. the acoustics might sound different from live instruments and could possibly bring forth a different energy from you vibing with the lyrics

    20th Installment

    Here

If I were to toss in my 2 cents, I would say that I would say that Nas took down some barriers of influence and actually somewhat recycled ideas from music of what's already out there. From Wu Gambinos, Nas got the name Escobar from featuring on Raekwon's joint back on Verbal Intercourse. Thug Life influenced him and so did the golden era of hip hop. What makes this album different is that he made himself more available to the public with twitter (even though his team manages it) and tumblr and other social means. He's been popping up on various concerts and TV performances and doesn't use his labeled "antisocial and superiority complex" mentality to brush rappers off (like he did to Jay-Z back in the day) but actually did collabos with them (http://www.datpiff.com/mixtapes-detail.php?id=368508) regardless of what you think.

Everyone winds up with excuses for unseen progress but I think the letter he wrote to BIG and Pac was genuine when he said "I missed your wake/not cause I'm fake/cause I hate/to see somebody so great/in that way" on We Will Survive. On a tangent, I really think that "I Am..." is under appreciated because it had at least 10 joints out the 16 that were extremely dope. When people rank his albums and despite some fluctuations in the order, "I Am" always end up on the bottom and I'm just dismayed. People who yearn credibility always tend to flock towards social "norm" or otherwise accepted ideas despite what the inner self actually believes. People need to undo the mental programming that peer pressure has done and really "unplug from the matrix doctrine."

With the producer choice, he kept most of them "safe" for hip hop "advocates" and chose his long time collaborators as well as respected individuals. The likes of Justice League, 40, internz, etc crept in a bit. Nas did experiment with 2 verse and 4 verse songs. I read somewhere that Nas chose No I.D. and Swizz beats on the album because these producers had their own divorces and Nas wanted to transcend that energy out of the album through production and lyrics.

Eminem dedicated quite a bit of mainstream tracks to his daughter and (unstable) family relationships and had music videos to accompany them (Mockingbird and When I'm Gone). Not to argue who did it first and whatnot, Nas did dedicate "Me and You" back in 2004 to his daughter but the recent music video and his album was probably due to public scrutiny, which made Nas open up with his side of the story. 2Pac's line "I finally understand/for a woman it ain't easy tryin to raise a man" from Dear Mama was recycled in Daughters. Hope for the remix.

Nas addressed his haters on Reach Out and Stay. Might as well copy-paste his lyrics whenever you see a hater's comment. The transcription of the lyrics, even on rapgenius does not really show accurately the rhyme scheme and that needs to be reformatted.

Swizz Beats is responsible for making banger tracks for DMX back in 1998. The beat on summer on smash is there but it's quiet, but the melody is sick and should be amplified throughout the track. I guess swizz made it quiet so it does not overshadow the lyrics. Swizz should make his talking voice for the vocals because if you listen to his interviews, it does not sound like what he did on the chorus.

Listen to Jeezy's chorus on "By The Way"....and then to Nas' chorus on "Trust"....lyrically, Nas doesn't need catchy phrases but if you zone out and listen hard enough, you can actually feel that vigor that involuntarily makes your head nod coming out the chorus of "Trust." After the "My President" collabo on the Recession, Nas probably heard that track on Jeezy's album and got the inspiration.

From Nas albums, there's always an underlying line that pops up twice. Life is Good: ..you ain't tryna murk him your guns are virgin.. (queens story and accident murderers). Stillmatic: I'm the N the A the S I R and if I wasn't I musta been escobar (Got urself a... and you're da man). If you dig harder, you'll find more such as new vocabulary Nas uses.

If I wanted to give Nas advice like the rest of the fans want to, I would say that Nas is very good at writing verses that would blow your brains to bits. He touched on some great topics with his verses on "This Thing of Ours," "Like Smoke," "Be Right," etc and to expand that idea into 3 stanzas is difficult because the words would become verbose and tangents occur, which dilutes the message, like what happened on the second verse of "The World's an Addiction." I mean, the 3rd verse was great but the build up to get there makes some of us impatient because the demographics who listen to Nas already has brains that are firing synapses at high levels to immediately understand what's going on without much transition. Therefore, I would humbly suggest to Nas to keep writing those thought provoking verses without the hinderance of the standard 16 bars or a need for a chorus. Regular rappers would breathe a sigh of relief after mumbling mumbo jumbo just to recapture the crowd with a catchy hook, but what are you saying and where's the message? I don't mind if it's just an intricate verse that's 50 seconds long -- put it on the album! It's your intellectual property and don't let it rot in a vault of unreleased material just to have it leaked or just have it featured so that it murders someone else's whole song. Nas should just start writing verses, not songs, with lines passed the margins, and then let it grow to the next 1-verse NY State of mind. If there's really a need to chop the verse in two to accompany a chorus, then do it but if it don't fit, don't force the lyrics to a template of how to make a song. If Nas writes enough verses, some of them would have overlapping concepts where they would combine to form a song (like book of rhymes) but don't stretch a verse with a great idea to cover the whole song. I don't mind listening to a wu-tang joint where all the verses don't relate to one another but they are dope enough to coexist under one song with an abstract title. And don't think that choosing fly beats would make you "sell out." Even though you think that "making hits is easy" and stress to be a trendsetter, we as fans don't mind if you once in a while "put a famous bitch on the hook" just to have "a platinum CD."

I have more to say, but it's probably on the next installment.

"No Such Thing As White Jesus" (feat. Frank Ocean)
    http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.20324/title.frank-ocean-says-his-collab-with-nas-was-lost-due-to-a-technical-issue

(feat. Mobb Deep): their third collaboration intended for Mobb Deep's eight studio album has yet to be released
    http://rapfix.mtv.com/2011/05/25/nas-and-mobb-deep-to-record-an-album-says-havoc/

(feat. AZ): It's likely they put together two songs, as Sosa would have probably requested a verse in return for the perpetually delayed Doe Or Die 2.
    http://www.2dopeboyz.com/2011/08/21/nas-az-in-the-studio/

(prod. by S1): Remember that photo with S1 and Nas posing on No ID's doorstep?
    http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GdIhFQeZ_Tw/Thbs9ApLYiI/AAAAAAAADTM/J6SgYU1UDp0/s1600/nas-symbolic1.jpg

(prod. No ID): Nas told Complex Magazine he completed ten songs with No ID. Life Is Good only boasted six total, so that leaves several collaboration unaccounted for.
    http://www.complex.com/music/2012/05/interview-no-id-speaks-on-producing-for-nas-life-is-good

(prod. Just Blaze): His infamous confrontation with Wesley Snipes at the Shaft movie premiere likely gave Nas the inspiration for this unreleased gem.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpyZf6aiCoo

(feat. Jay Electronica): almost certain Just Blaze is hoarding at least one of these epic collaborations on his hard drive.
    http://smokingsection.uproxx.com/TSS/2011/01/jay-electronicas-working-with-nas

(prod. The Interz): It's entirely possible they recorded several songs with Nas that were scrapped before factory pressing.
    http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.18918/title.producers-da-internz-compare-nas-upcoming-album-to-it-was-written

    http://www.complex.com/music/2012/05/large-professor-tells-all-the-stories-behind-his-classic-records-part-i/

(feat. Kanye West): - Nas was originally rumored to be featured on Kanye West's 'Christian Dior Denim Flow' along with Llyod Banks. We know that God's Son definitely spent time in Hawaii with Kanye during his Good Friday run.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zC1qAYYIxkM

(prod. Q-Tip): Back in early 2010, Q-Tip claimed to be working on Nas' new album and considering forming a supergroup with Q-Tip and Common (The Standard).
    http://theurbandaily.com/615332/q-tip-producing-tracks-on-new-albums-by-nas-talib-kweli-kanye/

"Street Shit" (prod. Swizz Beatz): This is the track everyone was raving about at the Life Is Good listening session.
    http://www.ddotomen.com/2012/06/15/nas-life-is-good-listening-session-review/

'Ye saying Nas was on a Good Friday song called "Futuristic G's" that was never released.

If I can go "disgruntled rap fan" on Nas, I could, but I couldn't really complain about what he has to offer on LIG. Plus, the new album is definately growing on people.

‎#1 had some flavor/could've been harder, #2 sounded like a victory lap/minimal imagery, #3 4th verse over piano had me "standing up to hold my glass high", #4 bona fide despite early leak/ross went off topic, #5 hoping for the remix w/jay and em/i guess too young to relate, #6 MJB was screechy/came out hard but then went on autopilot/reminiscent of http://youtu.be/EaXLpeayVYM. #7 sounded like nas had made a song out of 3rd verse, too many tangents, lost focus/3rd verse >>>, #8 too much swizz riff raff despite (quiet) beat was sick/need "Street Shit (unreleased)", #9 and #10 reminiscent but not savory, #11 and #20 overplayed/did he quote lil wayne with that ass crack line from Fireman?/approaching ABC rap/beat for 3rd verse should have been for whole track, #12 addresses haters, #13 unprecedented jazz/feature on Amy's album was better, #14 pop quiz for gossipers/had to be done, no escape, #15 unparalleled, despite overplayed/album does not reflect same effort, #16 imagery, need to be longer/where's AZ and Jay Electronica?/why did he extend the beat so that corny ass rappers can tact on their verse?, #17 and #18 this ain't 808's and heartbreaks but for that perennial crossover rap fan/rhymes well despite cookie cutter assembly, #19 cold/1 hot line/reminiscent of http://youtu.be/hSrDW_m5KDw, overall, album lacks repeatability, something most albums nowadays are a victim of/originality is solid/some resurgence of strength but lacks that one platinum hard hitting single/no radio friendly tracks (of course) and sub par live performances compared to tracks with JR Gong. Sounded like a cold winter album despite some summer hits...thus, need some post-album leaks and (hopefully) Lost Tapes Vol. 2
