Description:
It makes us laugh, it makes us cry, all while trying to put the fair and balanced back in "fair and balanced"... though not always so successful.

This is npr. National... Public... Radio...

Oh, to love those meaningful pauses.

thank you NPR for delivering great news. Also I listen to your shows This American Life, and On The Media, and you do a great job putting awesome soundtracks for your bumper music, such as explosions in the sky. I listen to your programs daily.

Another superb program: if you are a fan of thought-provoking arts programming such as PRI's "To the Best of Our Knowledge" (or if you too mourn the loss of the irreplaceable "Open Source" with Christopher Lydon) then "Ideas" from CBC Radio (CBC Radio: The Best of Ideas) is an outstanding program of philosophy and, well -- ideas. And WNYC's Radio Lab is equally stellar, with some brilliant editing and foley work thrown in.

Far and away the best news & interview program, in my opinion, is On Point with Tom Ashbrook, from WBUR. I love the Diane Rehm Show too, but in my opinion On Point is actually a superior program. Especially lately, their program roster has shown more interesting nuance, but more importantly, in my opinion, I've never heard a host with such intelligence, generosity, and grace -- nobody on radio handles an awkward moment or caller more deftly than Tom Ashbrook. A must-listen podcast for news & politics junkies.

Some of the best election coverage is on NPR. You can't get this kind of information from other sources.

NPR has shaped me as a person, kept my feet on the ground and my heart in the stars. By showcasing the world in its diversity, it showcases what is best about being human. Or, better said, to quote Franniechan, "npr rocks!"
