Exposure: The Alexandria Quartet - Justine

The Alexandria Quartet seem to be tagged indie pop in Last.fm. That's a bit skewiff. More , leaning towards and . I wouldn't say ! See what you think. Good tune, this.

    Video: frYars - The Ides

Last.fm aren't standing for any nonsense and have evidently refused to pander to this guy's ego and spelt the name in the 'normal' way. So instead of 'frYars', Last.fm has frYars. Shaaame. And I was going to point and laugh at that capital Y... ; )

Anyway, good tune this. Anyone who knows me will be surprised I like it, but I have to say, it stands out from the usual indie nonsense, what with a little to spice things up. A nice mish-mash of a track.

    Roberty Wyatt - Comicopera

    Amazon

The new album from Robert Wyatt is being well received. Comicopera was released earlier this month on Domino records.

This is one of those albums that some people find challenging and others take to with all their hearts. There's nothing conventional here, but there is. , , , and yes, . I have posted the track 'Just As You Are' in the October playlist. (See the end of this thread).

Here is a video interview with Robert Wyatt, recorded recently, in Paris.

Howe Gelb - Upside Down Home 2007 - Return To San Pedro

    Amazon.com

If, like me, you were a little disappointed by last year's 'Sno Angel Like You, you may be encouraged by Upside Down Home 2007 - Return To San Pedro, which was released in the summer and which Howe Gelb has made available on his site - http://howegelb.com.

Upside Down Home 2007 features old, new and spontaneous compositions, recorded as live in an adobe studio. The gospel choirs have gone and now we have stripped bare .

The track world stand still is in the playlist. Below is the video for Train Singer Song. Recorded at San Pedro Chapel in Tucson, AZ on March 6, 2007. Video and Audio Production - Jim Blackwood (Litterbox Music Services).

    Exposure: A Mountain Of One

    Amazon

*rant* What is it with Last.fm-ers tagging what they don't know as 'indie pop'? Here's another fine example. For goodness sake. : (

A Mountain Of One are NOT indie pop. , , , yes.

A Mountain Of One are: Zeb Jameson, Mo Morris and Leo Elstob who released their new album Collected Works this month, after two well-received EPs.

I have put three tracks in this month's playlist. Below is another live video recorded at The Spitz in London, 12 April 2007. The track is Ride.

Masters that they are, even Robert Fripp and Brian Eno's offcuts and outtakes get 4/5 stars from music critics.

There are samples of two key tracks on the BBC review of this album here. They are Timean Sparkles and Cross Crisis In Lust Storm.

Beyond Even was released 15 October.

    October Playlist

New thing I'm experimenting with: a playlist of new music that's available on the net. All mp3s are legal and free and, hopefully, all permanently available (so links shouldn't expire). [about project playlist).

I only started a week or so ago, so this month's is a bit sparse. I hope to improve in time to come.

    Anyway, hope you like it!
