  • This desk is a blasphemy. Let's keep it at shoegaze/dreampop.

I didn't hear any such calls when Noise-Pop was opened. :)

  • Noise Pop isn't always shoegaze, shoegaze isn't always dreampop. Newgaze is new-shoegaze or new-dreampop.. nothing different from the first wave of shoegazers.

I agree. I find the term stupid really. It's still shoegaze, it's still dream pop. Why the need to tell that "this band is new" when the sound usually are the same?

It's more to do with eras (than style).

If you discover a new shoegaze band, it'd spark some interest if posted at this desk (in addition to the Dreampop Desk).

This desk could become a showcase for new shoegaze bands...

Yeah, that's cool, I like that :) But the term itself is so meaningless I think.

  • the era-argument works fine i think. from experience, i like those newer shoegaze bands better than the 90s movement, so this desk works fine as a filter for me :)

    don't ask me. ask

I can see how M83 (with their electronics) would be easier to crack than MBV (with their uncompromising feedback).

    It's a clever pun. :)

  • actually i like MBV, but that's at the moment the only one . never understood why because i like all that noisy post-rock stuff and The Jesus And Mary Jane and the likes, but when it comes to shoegaze the recs always bore me to death.

    How about this...

    Die Like A Dog

  • well, i have to admit the groove is pretty fetching.

  • Curve really isn't shoegaze, their gaze is aimed at a different body part (the reason Butch Vig chose to use their music as blueprint for Garbage (to put it kindly)).

(And no, I still don't particularly like them.)
