Basically, metalcore is a genre which incorporates elements of hardcore punk and metal. Heavy stuff.

I will go with my favourite metalcore album:

    Converge - Jane Doe

    Some other albums:
The Dillinger Escape Plan - Irony Is a Dead Scene (unfortunately, it has wrong track list here)
    Yakuza - Samsara
Killswitch Engage - The End of Heartache (I don't like them tbh, but I know a lot of people do)

  • Be sure to check "The Number Twelve Looks Like You" if you want to hear some of the finest Mathcore around ! Jesus And Tori is an awesome track by them.

  • I second #12!

I don't know if I want to be classifying these bands as 'Metalcore' ??

    Today's Gig Poster (22nd September):

  • How about Ashes Of The Wake and maybe Fistful of Hate? Tho, the latter leans more to hardcore (or hardcore punk, if you will).

I know many people who like metal despise Atreyu because of their mainstream approach. But I think this one (their first album) is very good. And the later work is hardly as good.

Anyway, I'm not that far into metalcore yet, so I would love to check out some of these other albums :)

Ps. I took the liberty to make the list look a bit nicer ;)

I can't believe nobody mentioned As I Lay Dying!! "Frail words collapse", "Shadows are security" and "An ocean between us" are all great albums! Right now im checking out Darkest Hour. That's some great stuff too.

  • Poison the Well - The Opposite of December
Burnt by the Sun - The Perfect is the Enemy of the Good
    Misery Signals - Mirrors

The term Metalcore generally confuses me though. I'll go ahead and carry on any I reckon are worth listening to that are maybe related.

Botch - An Anthology of Dead Ends
    Earthtone9 - Arc'Tan'Gent
Beecher - This Elegy, His Autopsy
Cave In - Until Your Heart Stops

  • Also a lot of the bands/albums on that list are kinda sucky/I don't really think can be considered metalcore.

    But whatever.

  • Metalcore, like most genres is somewhat diverse. A lot of bands can sound completely different from eachother. All the albums I've heard on that list are metalcore/deathcore/mathcore as well. And as to whether what albums "suck" is completely up to you. I'm sure you can find something new to listen to from that list you might enjoy.

  • You're probably right. I'm still not entirely sure whether some of those bands are really metalcore bands though.

But then again, I'm not claiming to know much about the term, I've just always taken it as a fusion of metal and hardcore/hardcore punk, and by that logic I wouldn't call Atreyu, Hatebreed or Enter Shikari metalcore. Every Time I Die is also dubious for me.

Well, it seems like the genre has expanded from it's original meaning, so it's kinda hard to say. And I don't really consider Hatebreed fully metalcore by the way, more that one album.

  • Oh ok, that's understandable, there are a few bands that originally had a metalcore sound and then moved away from it. Cave In is a pretty good example, and I think the only real metalcore album Every Time I Die made was Last Night In Town. I just wouldn't consider Hot Damn! (which is in the list) or their other albums metalcore.

And yes, I see what you're getting at that the meaning has been twisted, same thing goes for other popular tags like "indie" and "emo" I guess.

Yeah, I think because you got stuff like mathcore and deathcore, the more open term metalcore can mean alot. Don't take my word for it though, as I haven't heard that much metalcore.
