    Pick of the week:

The Clientele - The Violet Hour (2003)

This album seems to slow down time itself. Maybe it just transports you somewhere and dumps you back in your chair when it's finished.

    Choice Cuts:
    The Violet Hour
When You and I Were Young
    House On Fire

Track/album tagging seems to be up the creak. :)

    Pick of the week:

Ides of Space - There Are No New Clouds (2002)

It took me all of 3 years to listen to the whole album (3 tracks a year), an irony as it's so good. Don't Bailter Space hale from down under as well? If so, that's the market almost cornered. :) Must be those southern hemipshere night skies.

    Random Noise Generator
    Computer World

I really recommend Ida or L'Altra, such great music.

  • Heard Frigid Stars by Codeine today for the first time..and am curious to know what should I get next?? Something more mellow, if possible.

I didn't see Subpop in the Labels desk.

    Coastal - Halfway to You

A slowcore with post-rockish feel (or the other way round)

Oh wow! Never noticed this desk!

Bedhead is pretty basic (as in commonly known, or so I believe) slowcore, but nonetheless amazing. If you don't own any albums, totally pick one up.

Windmills by the Ocean - windmills by the ocean

project including members of 27, Anodyne, Isis and Red Sparowes. Hypnotic repetitive post doom drone sludge core something...
Highly recommended & quit genius in my humble opinion.

    Today's Lyrics (a bit late but whatever :) )

    Bedhead - Liferaft

The bed at night is a life raft in the ocean of the dark. I hang my hands over the sides, pray to god knows what.

Drifting somewhere in the black air, feeling only the blanket and the weight of the mattress. The mistress of the sheets.

Too many successive nights of being miserable
give one the sense to sense the invisible. I know you're in this room but the air is too thick.

The bed at night is a life boat, a throne off which you can't be thrown. I hang my hands and feet over the sides, and go into the space of what can never be known.

Since shoegaze and lo-fi are getting more and more sophisticated with the influence of subgenres, once obscure slowcore is becoming more distinguishable among analogous styles. Allmusic's definition for "slowcore" is :

"Slowcore is indeed famed for the snail's pace of the skeletal music -- melodies linger forever and rhythms lurch forward, all shrouded in thick, dank atmospherics. While closely intertwined with sadcore, which favors a similar sound, slowcore's concerns are far more musical than lyrical -- in fact, many slowcore bands are instrumental outfits, while those with vocalists typically employ much more opaque lyrics than their soul-baring sadcore counterparts."

    Any recommendations for a beginner?

    Let's hear some 101.01 advice.

    I'd recommend:
    Spokane - The Proud Graduates
Movietone - The Sand and the Stars

Oh, thank you for the recommendations. I actually searched in the Discussions for slowcore but couldn't get any results. Maybe this search thing doesn't work properly.

Let's see if I can find Spokane and Movietone albums.

    Best wishes.
