  • Hello, anybody here?
I'd like an album in the lines of Livets Ändhållplats by Shining?
Fairly slow, droning sound, not drone though.

id never heard of the band to be honest, and i dont really know to much about black metal.
but are u aware they have a new album out? 1 month old.
its a bit shit recomending the same artist, but...
i am going to look into the band myself, so maybe i can be of more help once i know exactly what we are talking about.

    stab me 'til i cum
  • I've heard about the album but havn't got my hands on it yet. I got some tips on this from someone else though, namly hoplesslyhip:

Forgotten Tomb, Silencer and Xasthur are supposed to be simular bands, the same neich in black metal.

  • Krux is Doom, not BM :)

Edit: And do you guys count Mercyful Fate to BM? I do.

  • i dont, i think that is stupid when people do that.
venom dont do black metal, and death dont do death [kinda].

    stab me 'til i cum
  • I dont think its stupid counting Mercyful to the BM genre, they where pioners in satanic lyrics. But who cares atleast they made good music back in the days.

And Death not death metal? Hmmmm

    A
    Abazagorath

Some dark, unknown US black metal.

  • Well, it seems I can't distinguish Death from Black Metal. Please someone teach me! Although I'm not into these at all.

  • i couldnt in a million years explain it. not that its hard, i can tell them apart. the one thing i can say, which isnt in any way an explanation, and just another comparison, or contrast or whatever, is that they both came out thrash, and to the untrained ear can be confused, other than that they are totally different.

dont let anyone say its about the lyrics, or ideology, or whatever shit! its just the sound.
id say maybe black has higher pitched guitars, but u do get almost doomily heavy guitars.

Black Metal for one is usually (not always) satanic. Death metal has more low grunts and growls, while black metal vocals are relatively similar. Black metal has a few main categories, depressive/suicidal/ambient black metal like Xasthur, Leviathan, Striborg, Twilight, etc. who are very close to dark ambient. Then there is the fast thrashy kind of black metal, started in Norway, with bands like Darkthrone, Immortal, Emperor, Mayhem, Mayhem, etc. They take influences from the 1st wave of black metal, which is actually more thrash metal with bands like Venom and Mercyful Fate. Then there is also folk/pagan/viking black metal which is more melodic and is not satanic. Bands like Temnozor, Falkenbach, Arkona, Bathory, Enslaved, etc. And death metal also has it's categories like melodic death metal like Mercenary, Dark Tranquility, Kalmah, etc. Brutal death metal like Carcass and Cannibal Corpse, progressive death metal like Opeth, Amorphis, Nevermore and technical death metal with bands like Element and Quo Vadis. There are also genre-bender bands, who mix black and death metal. Now of course, these are just brief, not very specific posts, but if you want to look into it a little more, try these resources:
    http://www.metal-archives.com/
For bands, it is a huge database of thousands of metal bands of every sub-genre with detailed info about them.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Metal_subgenres
That's the only thing I know about genres. But if you want to know metal, you have to listen to metal, talk to metalheads and eventually you will catch on.

    Now let's continue our alphabet.

    B
    Burzum

One man band, Varg Vikernes, and my favorite black metal band ever. He started to play raw black metal, but eventually moved on to dark ambient, and all of his works are amazing. For those who have never heard anything by him, I recommend Anthology (2002), an album which compiles his greatest tracks from each album into one release. He is currently in jail, and when he gets out he plans to continue his career.

  • C
    Countess

Countess is a legendary band hailing from the Netherlands. They have been around for a good 15 years and have developed a unique style of black metal with some slight heavy metal influences. Many fans consider Ad Maiorem Sathanae Gloriam (1995) and Heilig Vuur (2004) to be their best albums. If you're interested: check their MySpace.

    D

    Darkthrone

A well known name in the field of black metal, these long-lived Norwegian black metal legends are among my favorite black metal bands of all time. Transilvanian Hunger is a must have album for any fan of metal.

  • E
    Enthroned

Belgium horde that has been playing fast, blasphemous black metal since 1993. Members of the Légions Noires (a group consisting of French bands solely) liked them so much they wanted them to join their circles. Unfortunately, no one from the original line-up is still in the band.

  • F

    Forefather

Forefather play Anglo Saxon Black Metal, though the band dislikes being classified as black metal and claim they play Anglo Saxon Metal. This makes for an interesting array of experimentation. I recommend Deep into Time

    Assailants propagate the schism
Black metal will continue; as long as Judeo-Christian ideals exist,
so will the need to oppose them with art.
