    An obvious choice:

Nile - In Their Darkened Shrines (2002)

    Q

    Quo Vadis

    A great tech death band.

  • what were the first 20 death metal albums?

    im being led towards:
    Possessed - Seven Churches (1985)
    for starters.

    i've never heard it, but...

    stab me 'til i cum
  • the earliest stuff [80s] that i have and even comes close to helping is as follows:

Napalm Death - Hatred Surge (1985)
    Napalm Death - Scum (1987)
Carcass - Reek of Putrefaction (1988)
    Death - Leprosy (1988)
Napalm Death - From Enslavement to Obliteration (1988)
    Vader - Necrolust (1989)
    Carcass - Peel Sessions (1989)
Carcass - Symphonies of Sickness (1989)
Atheist - Piece of Time (1989)

    pretty disapointing.

Perhaps these lists would be better if, instead of "first 20" it was "most influential 20"? I mean this both for this list and the one of the black metal thread.

I guess my point, and I didn't even make any effort to say it, is that there's always that line between death and thrash (or black and thrash), and no one knows where exactly the line lies (is Venom black [not really] or just an inspiration to black?). But if you make it list of influential albums, then that line becomes moot. Just a thought, really.

Thats hard to say...the Possessed album is indeed one of the best examples of the first full death metal albums. But some also consider the early slayer and sepultura albums to be death. Show no Mercy (83) Hunting the Chapel (84) and Hell Awaits (85) Bestial Devastation and Morbid Visions (85, 86).

  • A Death Metal related question

I am planning on buying the remastered edition of Possessed - Seven Churches, but I wanted to know how the sound quality was first.
I have only heard the CD on some MP3s I downloaded, and the sound was horrible. It was not the remastered version, and I don't know if it was just a bad rip or if the quality actually is that bad.

Anyone that has heard the remastered edition?
