  • Johnny O'Keefe - The Wild One (1958)

This one has been covered by Iggy Pop among others. JOK was the first Aussie rocker to tour the US, the first local artist to make the top 40 (with this song) and remains the most successful with 29 top-40 hits.

Johnny Kidd and the Pirates are superb...well worth tracking down their stuff. I've got a compilation on CD somewhere, but have managed to get all their 7" singles from ebay for about £2 a throw, seeing as they're so underrated. Having said that, the guitarist, Mick Green, is rated by pretty much anyone who picked up a telecaster in the UK between 1957 and 1980.

    Eeeeeep.
