    Me neither. :(

I've been meaning to get into rock and roll circa 1955-8.

It's irritating when I have so many tunes in my head (mainly from flicks) and can only identify half of it.

100 Great Albums of the 50's
three of ur favs at a time.

for starters [i only have about 3]:
Charles Mingus - The Clown (1957)
Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um (1959)
Ornette Coleman - The Shape of Jazz to Come (1959)

wow, i was right, i have 3 i think are more than good, and about 15 all together, so thats me done. the latest i go back is Woody Guthrie - Dust Bowl Ballads (1940), and then there is a 15 year gap to Miles Davis - Blue Moods (1955) [which sucks].

I hope we get some rock 'n' roll on the list (which I love but don't know much about).

Bo Diddley - Have Guitar, Will Travel (1959)
Charles Mingus - The Clown (1957)
Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um (1959)
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue (1959)
Ornette Coleman - The Shape of Jazz to Come (1959)
Sun Ra - Jazz in Silhouette (1958)

Secret Snacker & Accomplished Pen Thief At:
  • You started all these while I was away for school? Naughty! I want to get into more 50s stuff myself, I lack mostly everything (except for the obvious jazz)

  • It's pretty hard to do a list like this, because most 1950s R&B and rock-and-roll artists didn't release albums. Their songs came out one single at a time. Full LPs were for Broadway cast recordings and jazz artists, and the occasional pop artist like Frank Sinatra.
