    Recommending...

    Autechre - Quaristice (2008)

Not a favourite with fans, but a grower (if given enough compost).

Speaking of compost, I wonder what would happen if you played this in the greenhouse around the clock?

  • if you listened to that album while studying, that makes clear why you liked it :D

actually i liked it too, but not comparable to what they did before.

  • So does no one study to metal? Sludge acts like Minsk, Noothgrush and Isis in particular got me through some pretty rough nights sitting in front of the computer copying lecture notes.

And whoever posted In a Silent Way is a genius. That album was in heavy rotation all the way through second semester for me.

shame I didn't know Isis when I studied... some Tool, Deftones, Ignite & so on worked quite well for me though :)

Probably never, but there's always a first time. :)

I find experimental techno (in general) stimulates the brain.

Secret Snacker & Accomplished Pen Thief At:
  • the thing is that music as intriguing and complex as Autechre's isn't good as background music. i need soemthing where nothing happens (like Bohren & Der Club of Gore) or any classical music which i have noch chance of understanding and therefore don't even try :)

    don't ask me. ask

I must be a freak then, chilling out to µ-Ziq. :)

Classical, jazz, ambient, downtempo, all good with a book as well.

We'll have to kick off a great albums list at some point...

Secret Snacker & Accomplished Pen Thief At:
  • I'm surprised no one has mentioned classical music yet either. My English teacher from high school used to harp on about Bach all the time, and occasionally put Classic FM on for some background reading noise.

And I once read in a medical journal that ANY music which is familiar is good for studying. Which would explain why I could study no problem with racket like Death or Atheist blasting in my ears.

Sometimes the familiar point doesn't work for me. Because then I'm all hung up in how good the music is instead of focusing on the work.

I'm more for following the particular mood I'm in when I'm going to start studying anyway. Can't listen to classical music if I'm in metal mood. The right music simply makes me relaxed, and I guess that's the most important thing. That be ambient, metal or weird electronic music.

When that is said, I guess music with a more traditional rhytm might work a bit better, because you have to focus harder if the music "don't make sence".
