    My pick of the week:

Quite frankly, I've loved this film (and soundtrack) for the best part of my life. Almost as far back as I can recall.

The music makes the film. The film makes the music.

Television can have its very own desk!

I have a mate who listens to theme tunes by the million, he'll soon have you running scared.

Does this desk include musicals, or only movies?

Anyway, my pick of the week:

Billy Elliot was a great movie, and the soundtrack is a fun one (well, if you like cheesy 70's and 80's music like T Rex and Style Council).

    Film musicals are in.

Stage musicals may warrant a desk (to keep it neat and tidy).

I'm liking this desk already. :)

  • Yes, we desperately need a (stage) musical/showtunes desk.

Erm: film or stage musical I guess, but my fav is probably:

lyrics by Sondheim, music by Bernstein, all round fantastic soundtrack.

Pretends reggae isn't just the same song repeated ad nauseum at:

Yeah West Side Story is good, but I wish it was more self-contained. It makes no sense unless you know the stageplay, where as most musical soundtracks you can listen to without ever having seen the play and make some sense out of them.

  • The songs are so good on their own, they needn't make sense plot-wise. :D Anything Sondheim touches turns to at least silver, and oftentimes platinum (Assassins, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, etc)! I've never liked Into the Woods, much, however.

    O Brother, Where Art Thou?

    Great movie, great music.
    Highlight:
    Hard Time Killing Floor Blues

  • Wim Wenders

Wim Wenders generally makes great compilations for his films and get wonderful original songs from amazingly great artists.
The top fight stands between Der Himmel Über Berlin and Until The End of the World with a slight advantage to the latter for its entirety as a compilation sountrack. DHÜB (aka Wings of Desire) puts up a good fight though for it's sheer beauty.

    Pick of the week:

    The Breakfast Club (1985)

One of those iconic 80's films, and yes, I was sucked into the vortex along with every other person with acne. It affected a mate of mine so much he tried to live out various scenes. One day he set the soul of his shoe on fire, the next he was trying to get us stoned before lunch time.

And worst of all, he became a Simple Minds fanatic. :D

"Pink Panther" soundtrack by Henry Mancini rules! I think everybody hummed/whistled the main theme at least once n their lives ;) But the other themes are very cool too.

  • my favorite soundtrack would be..

    Requiem For A Dream

  • Edward Scissorhands soundtrack anyone? It's bloody beautiful.

  • Pick of the week:

    Night on Earth

Tom Waits is always great along Jarmusch.

    Pick of the week:

La marche de l'empereur OST, composed by Emilie Simon.

Not typical soundtrack, rather the collection of beautiful songs which should appeal to fans of Mum or Bjork. Absolutely charming.

  • Halo (2002)

    Top Tracks:
    The freakin' whole album. :)

    Pick of the week:

    Danny the Dog (2004)

After the "100th Window" disappointmemt I was a bit sceptical about this, but it turns out to be a top class soundtrack.

This incorporates many (varied) styles, some of which are regular features on previous albums (that familiar bass-laden downtempo with strike-of-the-match percussion). Other tracks are Massive Attack rarities, such as "Polaroid Girl" which employs fast, airy synth blasts (similar to "Reflection", b-side of "Inertia Creeps").

All in all, the standard of songwriting plus the variety make this money well spent.

    Choice Cuts:
    Danny the Dog
    Polaroid Girl
    P Is for Piano

Secret Snacker & Accomplished Pen Thief At:
  • Various Artist - Hate (1995)

La Haine: Musiques Inspirees du Film (1995)

    Both english/french versions. Great soundtrack/film.
