Anyone who knows me can see this one coming several miles away:

    Christmas

  • I must confess, the only Christmas song I've ever liked is none other but the classic Only Christmas Song I've Ever Liked, Fairytale of New York. It's not like I'd heard particularly many in the first place, though (although there are insane numbers of songs I associate with Christmas because I first/most notably heard them at the time, Falling at Your Feet and Moon River, for instance). I've never even been able to get into A Christmas Album, and I do like Bright Eyes on the whole.

Oh, oh, I know! Silent Night! My trusted (?) radio station's made a habit of playing it twice each Christmas night, once early in the evening and once at midnight, and it really is beautiful.

    Need some festive music?

Nip over to compulsive mix-makers and let's get the glitter flying!

    (click cover)

I'm hoping we can get 4 mixes out in time (4 x 10 tracks).

Damn, that's you out of the mix-making! :(

  • Well, I could try and hunt down some Christmas music by artists I don't despise, but I'm just not exceedingly much into the whole jingling-bells-acoustic-snowfall-coca-cola-truck thing, I guess. If I can come up with anything, I'll drop by :D

It's all a themepark (from the german tree to the said coca cola truck), but there are loads of indie bands who have the odd stab.

Tom Waits to Belle and Sebastian.

I assume they do it for their kids.

  • Hmmm, I definitely need to make a new Christmas mix. My parents have a tendency to play some really bad Christmas music at our party (I mean...like...98 Degrees and that kind of thing).

    Favorites are...
    Happy Xmas (War is Over)
    Father Christmas
and really any Christmas songs by The Beach Boys

  • The only "christmas song" you need: Reindeer Totally awsome.

In my opinion, the only thing that should hang in the christmas tree is Santa.
    =^.^= <-- (meaning: I mean no harm, don't start a discussion)

  • I understand that Blackmore's Night did a Christmas album of some sort? Does anyone know offhand the name of this album?

All I have in this world is my balls and my word, and I don't break 'em for no one. You understand?

    That'd be Winter Carols :)

  • Ah, thanks. Unfortunately, Sonic Cathedral doesn't seem to be carrying it ATM, so I suppose I'll have to scour Ebay and half.com to find it. My mom's talking about visiting around the holidays, and I can't stand her shitty Christmas music, so this may be a good medium between my tastes and hers.

  • Gene Autry - Complete Columbia Christmas Recordings

Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer is the second-biggest Christmas single of all time, behind Bing's "White Christmas." Autry recorded several other Christmas sides, all secular and often about Santa Claus, including several he wrote himself and others (including "Rudolph") written by Johnnie Marks. This new set collects them all, including two duets with Rosemary Clooney.

    Key Tracks:
    Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer
Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane)
Thirty-Two Feet - Eight Little Tails
    Frosty The Snowman

"Just like I knew what I was doing" -- Foe

  • In the record shop I work at, this is the top selling Christmas album of all time. An entire cd of cats meowing (sp?) Christmas tunes. Oh dear.

Another 'classic' is Durwood Douche's "The Christmas Gift". Parental warning: contains strong language!

Is that the one with the song which goes, "Hey, Santa Claus you c*nt, where's me f*cking bike? I've unwrapped all this other junk, and there's nothing that I like!", and so forth?

And if the neighborhood cats here started doing that, I'd have to shoot them.

Oh no (that's Hey Santa, methinks), it's the one that goes "Just a little Christmas b***j** will brighten up his day ...". It's pretty sweet.

We've just started Mix 2 (An Indie Pop Shout to Santa!). Feel free to swing down on a tinsel rope and sprinkle lashings of glitter.

  • Uhm so yeah, it's almost christmas and because of that I recentely listen to a lot of Die roten Rosen, which is an alias for the christmas album of Die Toten Hosen.

But what I'm wondering is.. are their more good punkrock christmas albums out there?

  • Oh, and I can't believe I forgot to post this album before...

A Christmas Gift for You From Phil Spector
Classic wall of sound production and great vocal performances. Most Christmas pop music is cheesy, but this is amazing.

How could I not mention Pretty Paper?

I've you've never heard this "gem" and are a fan of Willie, do yourself a favour and keep it that way. I assume the "pretty paper" refers to the money he must have needed quite badly to record this shite. ;)

  • Snow

    Perfect two-track single:
    Winter Wonderland and
    Frosty the Snowman

Probably the hardest CT single to find (usually sells for $40 and up), the easiest place to get both tracks now is the Lullabies To Violaine compilation.

"Just like I knew what I was doing" -- Foe
  • I need those Cocteau Twins tracks.

I'll say Dominick The Italian Christmas Donkey
