Check out Thawed Slothman for some genuinely unclassifiable Noise Fusion.

Also, I've recently finished a 54 minute Ambient/Noise composition titled Pavor Nocturnus. Here's the manifestoish bulletin I posted on the Thawed Slothman myspace for it...

    New Song:

    Yep! It's a song, and it's new!

I was tossing around titles for a while, like "The Boomerang That Never Comes Back" and "Deodorant Nozzle", but eventually landed on...

    "Pavor Nocturnus"

Pavor Nocturnus is an illness where the mind can't distinguish between nightmares and reality. I thought this was cool, but found out a few million fucking black metal bands have already used the title. Bastards...

Sadly though, I can't post "Pavor Nocturnus" on myspace... it's 54 minutes long.

    Pretentious already, huh?

So what is it? 54 minutes of interchangable, genre-hoping ugliness? Not exactly...

It's basically a gigantic, multi-layered soundscape of surreal ambient/piano/guitar improv, with lots of reverb and weird-ass feedback nonsense. Yeah, pretentious...

But I like it, [is it normal for an artist (even though I'm not one) to not only enjoy their work but promote it with lame ass descriptions like what's above? Help me out here!], so you might like it too.

E-mail me at thawed_slothman@hotmail.com and I'll send you this chunk of ambience through sendspace.com or yousendit.com

    -sssssssssloth!

It can be downloaded for free here.

  • If I managed to sit through it, -you- can.

"remember that? there is a reason that animals are killed. It's called fucking FOOD. And raping?! what the fuck does that mean? if your talking about the milking of cows' utters, then your fucking wrong. if their not milked, they explode, and you get a cow who dies froman infection because you tried to stop producing dairy. you are a fucking retard."
  • Uh... How can this thread be so dead !?

I'm kinda disappointed. ;P I came here looking for suggestions, but looks like there isn't so many. (Especially since I searched for some Harsh Noise.

So... I'll just give a suggestion to all those that might come after me. (Probably many will know it, but I think it's worth a listen for those that don't.)

I picked up Black Vase by Prurient a while ago, not knowing what to expect, after asking for extremely . I was told it wasn't extremely harsh, but rather... Totally unlistenable. Now I understand why.

So, what do we have here ? Certainly not Noise as I'm used to listen to. This isn't abusive harshness for the sake of it and the wall of sound isn't that thick. It's not ambient neither does it have totally demented screams buried under static. Just regular, good Noise, with quite an eerie feeling to it.

Then they come. Probably the eeriest feedbacks and eeriest noises ever created. Damn, this is pretty much sure to give you the worst headache you ever had if you listen to it more than five minutes in a row. It disturbs me to the highest point possible. At first, I didn't really like it much, and couldn't stand it at all, but now, I can actually listen to the whole album.

Why do I listen to it, might you ask ? I don't really know. As I said, it's not pretty at all, neither is it harsh, but rather annoying. Well, that's one might think a first, but upon listening to it more, I realised this is probably because of the intense effect it procures. It's mind-numbing at full volume, and you can't possibly do something else while listening to this album, but to sit down, and wait for the end. Crushing.

Enough talking. All in all, this is a good, even though quite disturbing album, and I advise Noise fans to get it, that is if you're not faint-hearted !

  • Scrumptious Noise

Listen to this album:Mellow Out by Mainliner

This one is noise to me. God bless Japan(they need a decent thread here, their work is simply MAC-tastic).

  • Black Vase scares me :: Some noise I really like

Hair Police's role in the Viki/Hair Police Split 7" is very entertaining - Viki is also really cool doing broken electronics and circuit bending and crap

Hotoguisu & Prurient - Snail on a Razor; slow evolving noises, just sit down and doodle some messed up stuff listening to it

Moth Drakula; like radio static toned down 20 octaves and blasted and distorted and flangered and flipped out, really fun

Sissy Spacek is a real brainfuck, really spazzy aural torture, I don't think I should even recommend it. Oh, what the hell

Once I listened to all of Orthrelm - OV. It wasn't pleasurable

I really really liked Shora/Merzbow - Switching Rhetorics. Especially Shora's part. Not really noise, but really crazed epic something-or-other-core. I also really need more music like Shora, is that an inappropriate request here?

'Japanoise' compilations are very good. I'm really obsessed with the Zidousha track on hear that just has like the sweetest combination of crazy electronics burbles and noise. I really need more music like it (recommendations?)

I'm also starting to like Bastard Noise, but on the other hand, I'm starting to go a little crazy, so maybe I should hold off on the noise.

  • Melt-Banana - Scratch or Stitch

Another Japanese trip down Noiseland. This is more of Noise-pop..with monkey wailings, short bursts of energetic songs. If only I could write well..

Yay, I finally found Merzbow's latest creation, Merzbear. I loved it. I personally liked it more than any of his other albums that I have heard, so go get it NOW!

  • I'd say check out "Timex" from Jazzkammer... An awesome Lowercase/Noise album if you like more "intelligent" Noise. I'm not going to make a review though, check for yourself.

And yeah... Black Vase IS scary. >=D

  • Check Out: Hemophiliac!!!

The new project of Mike Patton, John Zorn and Ikue Mori.

  • Damn, Mike Patton and John Zorn, gotta check it out as soon as I get back home.

For the time being, I recommend Torturing Nurse, a Chinese Noise act. Probably the harshest around !

    Steve Albini and noise?

  • I used the Big Black reference, it said it was a post-punk noise band, so I put him here. Where should he be put?

  • I think he should be at Math Rock.

Noise rock desk would be the best choice... but there's no noise rock desk. Math rock then. Or maybe american underground desk, I'm not sure do I know what "american underground" means though.

  • there are only 2 kings of noise

    #1 Dissecting Table
    #2 TERRORFAKT

"I Have A Message For The People Of Iraq, GO HOME AND DIE!!!"

  • Noise rock desk would be the best choice... but there's no noise rock desk.

Then wouldn't the 'noise' desk be the second logical desk? I mean, I don't know the difference between noise and noise rock. Math Rock would be too far off from noise rock wouldn't you think?

Yes it would. I absolutely understand your point of view. It's not a big mistake. It's just about the fact that math rock desk would be a better place for Steve.

The difference between noise and noise rock: noise rock is a noisy kind of rock music and noise is, well, noise.

  • Noted! Thanks radekpl (and matetoth) for helping me out.

I must say, it just never occurred to me that noise music can be "noise only" without the rock or the pop or whatev. :P

  • If you don't know what it is... you could try some !

You could try Merzbow (1930), Masonna (Frequency L.S.D.), Jazzkammer (Timex), KK Null (Ergosphere), The Incapacitants (The Pariah Tapes) or for non-Noise noisy music, Navicon Torture Technologies (The Church Of Dead Girls), Genocide Lolita (Fuck Equality), Atrax Morgue (Mechanical Asphyxia)...

Should give you a good idea of what is Noise without the "Rock" or "Pop".
