We must have a Stiff Little Fingers guru around (somewhere).

Most probably out back, sniffing glue.

  • could we get a straight up 70s punk 100 great albums list on the go? i wouldnt be able to help that much [maybe 25 REALLY obvious ones] but it would be good to look at. i was going to prupose a 100 great 77 punk albums, but that would be toooo hard, but the again, i suppose what im meanin is the 77 style, and that could be an album released this year [could it? is that black and white band 77ish?]

    anyway worth a try.

  • on yer sel' then.
but were the saints straight punk? were they not some knd of proto, or to my memory, power pop?!! [a genre i have yet to like]. and the stranglers? im looking at my list of stuff, which has 77 released magazine cds that must be post'.

..im not going to add these right now, but, Lust for Life, New Boots and Panties!!, Suicide, Talking Heads: 77, X-Ray Spex, No New York, Tubeway Army, Real Life, More Songs About Buildings and Food, Live at the Witch Trials, The Feeding of the 5000: The Second Sitting - which of those count? i mean, id say, yeah, the damned, buzzcocks, teh clash or whatever, but...

EDIT: and Marquee Moon is proto, right?
EDIT EDIT: could i add The Holy Bible? i always thought it was along those lines, admitedly before i knew post-punk existed.

  • I'm not a fan of genres - it usually just gets too hard to put music in little boxes for me. If it came out in the late ‘70s and had a raw aggressive sound and antiestablishment attitude that’s our animal here I reckon.

"I'm Stranded" was raw, aggressive and at the right time to be called punk although The Saints were rejected when they showed up in the UK for not looking the part (could have done with some safety pins and hair dye). Forming in 1974, they predated the 77 wave so they could be proto-punk I guess.
The Stranglers rejected the punk tag themselves but they had the sound, attitude and appeared at the right time.

I have to plead ignorance on Suicide, No New York, Tubeway Army, Live at the Witch Trials, The Feeding of the 5000: The Second Sitting but I would say why not for the rest. I think we could call “Marquee Moon” 77 punk – again right time and sound. “The Holy Bible” came too late to be called 77 punk even with the sound (better draw a line or we will have “Dookie” on the list).

Haha. :) If they make a Terminator 4, they should send the dude to take out Green Day. Nevermind John Connors!

I'll join the fray when my music's scanned back in (new computer = set back 1 or 2 days. Without MediaMonkey I'm bolloxed proper. :(

This will be one hell of a list.

Secret Snacker & Accomplished Pen Thief At:
  • right, so i changed the name of the list slightly, it means exactly the smae, but i think the '77' was causing confusion.

who where those guys who did all the swearing? - the cover had the four guys just standing about in a street, there was something interesting about the cover, but i forget what.
