    Cover of/by Mike Oldfield

I know Mike Oldfield has done a few covers, notably some of QE2, but I've only recently discovered a disco cover of Tubular Bells by Champs Boys (or Champs' Boys Orchestra). It's incredibly naff (and contains precisely zero actual tubular bells), but fun nonetheless.

Are there any other more famous or obscure covers of Mike Oldfield tracks out there? And are they any good?

And if we're doing the favourites thing - what is your favourite cover by Mike Oldfield?

If you fancy hearing the Champs Boys track, here's the link:

  • i don't know if you can see it as a cover, but i love his women of ireland (and his other traditional interpretations on voyager) but i haven't heard any mike oldfield-covers from other artists, too bad

Yeah, I suppose he doesn't call them covers so much as rearrangements. I think "Arrival" was a mistake on "QE2", but my vote for best rearrangement is the "North Star" segment on "Platinum". Philip Glass's original is good but listening to the whole album it's from (also called "North Star") makes my head hurt. A masterpiece to make it endlessly listenable!

  • I know two dance covers of "To France" (by MR and by Novostar, IIRC). They are actually quite good (at least if you are into dance/techno-like genres ;) ).

There is a cover of To France by Blind Guardian, a german metal band, which is quite good!
It appears on their album The Forgotten Tales.

  • Apologies, it's Novaspace, not Novostar:

Juliane Werding - Nacht voll Schatten (German version of "Moonlight Shadow")

This is a live performance on German TV from 1983

    "Mulder, it's me."
  • Some recently showed me this one, a metal version of Tubular Bell (called Tubular Hell)

(they stop talking and start playing about 55s into the youtube clip on that page)

    Samoa Park - Tubular Affair

    Samoa Park - Tubular Affair

A >7minute long Medley of Foreign Affair and Tubular Bells with taste. Because of the length the first 3.5 Minutes were released as single and the second half as B-side, with faded in again. (yea, vinyl-single)

It was a small hit at least in Germany.

    'Instrumental Version':

I'm listening Bach right now and I know that one work (Badinerie Aus Der H-Moll Suite) was also record by Mike, but I can't find it. I know it's one of his early works. If someone recognise this one, please write what Oldfield work it is.

I wish I could forget that Hall & Oates covered Family Man from Five Miles Out in the 80s. It was pathetic compared to the original but was a hit for them.

    Bach

I am pretty sure the Bach is included in "Conflict" on QE2.
