Anyone ever send you a good track, and say 'listen to this'? Did it drive you crazy? Someone who believes in the art of putting not only music together to make a song, but the art of putting songs...

Well, playing or listening to albums can be a task nowadays. It's due to time pressure, more or less. I'm sure if we had more time on our hands we'd be able to play and listen through an entire album, with actually paying mind to each and every song without skipping. But then again, not all albums have that quality, that's why albums should be perfected to a degree that it isn't just a mixtape or compilation of songs. But then again, I guess our ears can be trained to like certain aspects of music. It's different for every individual. I always listen to albums though.

There were times in which there is a track I find very pleasing to play over and over again because I find it more enjoyable to hear than the rest. That just ruin the fact of the album and if it was a single then it would've been acceptable, but nope. I started listening to the entire album and I actually enjoyed all of the tracks. I don't really feel like playing that same track anymore. I been listening to full albums ever since.

Why do people listen to separate tracks? The music was created with a whole concept. I do not understand such people. There are conceptual albums to listen from top to bottom, not to crumble!

It used to bug me, but then I realized it's just a matter of perception. Most 50's music was singles oriented because of the limitations of vinyl at the time, for example. Though a really cohesive album is pretty much always more satisfying than a great track.

Listening to whole albums is the way to go! I try to tell that to some of my radio rock singles friends. But they just give me a blank stare :(

and sometimes i do one better; there are a few artists (e.g. portishead) that i nearly always listen to their entire discography rather than just a single album....

ok, sometimes when i can't decide on an album, i'll shuffle all -- but I only have complete albums on my ipod, and usually listen in that format... I never ever do shuffle on any smaller subset; i.e. i know some people that will queue up an artist and then shuffle -- NO! if you can narrow down to an artist, you can pick an album -- that is the way it is meant to be heard... Anyone else here use amarok? I love the random album feature, for when i'm indecisive...

I never understood why people bother downloading individual tracks. Don't they realize that if they like an artist's hit single, MAYBE ON THE OFF CHANCE they'll like the rest of their work?

Just joined, great initiative! By the way: if my current 'listening to' list reflects otherwise: it's probably a soundtrack album or some various artists compilation album... ALBUMS ARE GO!

Here at last! Life looks better when you rest on a 10.000 tracks mattress. Are 20.000 ones even more comfy?
