Ideas for Future Development

  • Ideas for Future Development

    Hey,

Still loving the extension. It's been working great for months now.

I love it so much that I keep thinking about more places I'd want to use it. Here are a couple ideas that I would love to see implemented as you look to develop the extension further:

    (1) Support for Seeqpod. I just discovered seekpod, and the ability to create playlists of online media on the fly is amazing. Now, I just wish I could scrobble the tracks I play! I don't know how tricky it would be to apply your existing code to the seeqpod player, but it would be a great addition.

    (2) Availability in Songbird. Mozilla's newly released media player, Songbird, is on its way to being one of the best media organizers out there. One of the main reasons is its extensibility. It already has an add-on for scrobbling tracks played through the main player interface. But the beauty of Songbird is that it uses the Firefox architecture for built-in tabbed web browsing. Since I've been using Songbird to listen to my own collection, I find myself using its browser to explore music on Last.fm, seeqpod, and Pandora. But there is currently no extension to scrobble Pandora songs played through the built-in browser. I wonder how readily your code for the Firefox extension could transfer into a Songbird extension -- what do you think?

    Keep up the great work!

  • i was actually thinking the same thing about songbird.

songbird actually has builtin last.fm support, and if the play pause controls could be ported over to the actual player everything would work great.

so from an outsiders perspective, songbird just needs to be able to pull the song information from pandora. controling pandora would be nice, but at the very least we need the song information

how are you scraping the information from the pandora player? i was poking around in your extension's files, but id idnt see it right away. i'll keep looking through it later, but it would be great if you could point me in the right direction.

id be willing to work on the songbird extension, but i dont know anything about extension development... so i'll try and we'll see!

ive got some free time now- just started winter break. phew.

SongBird should be supported within the next two releases, depending on how soon they release a new version of their scrobbler extension with the patch I sent them, fixing the conflict between their extension and mine. I have it working in my build though.

Pandora has a basic API, they fire events when songs start/end/pause, etc.
As for controlling pandora, one would have to inject key presses into the flash for their hotkeys, and I don't believe that would be possible with just an extension.

Last I checked, Seeqpod is 100% flash, thus, absolutely nothing and no way for me to get information about the song that is currently playing.
Someone would need to ask them to add a JavaScript API allowing for song data to be retrieved, preferably event based with play, pause and skip/end events while passing at least parsed Artist and Track title data, and song length, album would be nice too.
This would be unlikely, and probably rather ugly, as Seeqpod is all about pulling random music it finds scattered around the internet, in all it's horribly tagged glory.

  • I love the extension and would like to have it available in Songbird.

Also, it would be great if you could also support grooveshark.com

    Great! I can't wait!

Makes sense. I don't know enough about building extensions to recognize where it would be possible -- just thought it would be a good idea. But I can see the point about most tracks on seeqpod being poorly tagged, and therefore presenting a pretty big obstacle to effective scrobbling.

Thanks, and keep up the great work!

  • Fluid Support as a Userscript?

Is there anyway for you to provide the JavaScript to be used as a UserScript for the Fluid App? I have Fluid setup for Pandora, but you cannot use FireFox extensions with it.

    Thanks!

I would like to see this support Lala.com

How about Lala.com? I would like this to support Lala.com plays. :)

  • @ctd1500- In future releases would you provide the option on the lowest submission time to be lower to 5 to 10 seconds, instead of the present 30 seconds? This drop in time, would accommodate many tunes. If this feature was present, I could surely drop pandorafm.
    Thanks.

  • I love this plugin, however when I switch between the two, it gets hung up on the one I had already stopped/closed. For example, i'm listening to pandora, then i stop, close it, and open up slacker. it just says pandora at the bottom right and doesn't jump onto slacker.

    anyone else have this problem?

  • XM/Sirius Radio Online

There is an XM Radio online player that I suppose would work much like Slacker and Pandora. I assume Sirius has an online player as well?

    Erik Ankrom | erikankrom.com
  • Deezer support

Pandora.com only works on USA. The most used free & legal music player used in France is Deezer.com . It allows you to play "any song, from any music disk, when you want, as much as you want, legally". So you can guess, it is very popular.

Having support for audioscrobbling deezer.com would be GREAT !

    Google Chrome?

I'm probably a bit of an outsider, but I'd love if there was a Google Chrome extension that worked the same way. I've fallen in love with Chrome. I've managed to get the same effect as Ad Block onto Chrome, but I still haven't figured out a way to send songs played in Pandora (through Chrome) to Last.FM.

  • Songbird 1.1

Did songbird 1.1 implement the kind of changes you needed in order to make this extension compatible?

    Jango.com

There's huge number of services people want to be supported... yet another suggestion from me: jango.com It's Pandora.com competitor, with one big difference: it's free to use in EU (well in US probably too).

  • support the myspace player and the playlist.com player!! :D

    Miss Marz
  • Another suggestion for sites to support: nutsie.com. Pandora is the main one though, so if you don't get to any other sites thanks anyway!

I absolutely love the extension! especially the songbird support
Here' s an idea: you can connect the extension in some way to songbird's window(if it can be done) so it displays now playing. This way we will be able to see the lyrics and info from songbird's other extensions.
    Keep up the good work!

  • dora.fm

Since you have the best extension with Pandora, I've been using dora.fm to allow the Tweeting of my plays. I'm hoping you'll be able to tweek your extension to work when using dora.fm

    thanks for you great work!

I second this! Although I don't use the Lala Library, I preview a TON of albums there.
Also, AOL has many amazing radio stations that I would probably listen to more if it scrobble so I won't have to write down every song I want to remember.

Thank you so much for the scrobbler!
