Jazz is very much alive in Japan... even in the rural areas where one may not expect to find a jazz artist, let alone a jazz club! I've seen more live Jazz in rural Japan than I have in the US.

If you like Japanese jazz/nu-jazz/club jazz check out our band indigo jam unit's page here on last.fm: http://www.last.fm/music/Indigo+Jam+Unit We have made them available outside of Japan now, and their music should be a little easier and a lot cheaper to get hold of now.
