If a physical copy is within my capability of attainment, then I will simply refuse to download it. Unfortunately we are moving to the age of downloads where physical worth is getting lost - but...
I'll fill this overview thing out when I have some time. Busy busy busy.
Writing writing writing.
It's all very self explanatory though isn't it. That said, I *do* download music if it is:
1. Out of print.
2. Ridiculously hard to find. I don't download things that are simply hard to find though.
3. Unavailable because they were never printed in a physical format. Demos, live bootlegs for example.
Now the question remains. Why?
1. I'm a purist. Fuck you. It's the only way to go.
2. Sure, I accumulate a whole bundle of cds that take up room, but it's all about the tangibility. I have a serious distrust of my hard drive - especially after the fact that my computer has been fucked (hard drive implicated here) for about a month. Lucky I have cds :)
3. Vinyl? Sure. But I'm a cd man. You might be a vinyl man/woman.
4. It's about the sound quality. The fidelity. The knowledge that you are missing as little as you can. That you can hear every single fucking bit of the recorded sound, and that it is as much as you can.
5. Fuck you.
I hate the fact that I can so easily tell the difference between mp3s and cds. Grrr. It's just so much more vibrant. The drums! The drums!
But then again, I wouldn't have it any other way.
