• Change the artist audio players back

    20 May 2009, 20:58 by buzz-in

On May 20th, last.fm implemented a new system which removes the audio player from all artist's pages, requiring all users to now search for songs and play them from their respective pages.
Not only does it mean that it's much harder for you as users to listen to music easily, it affects smaller artists hugely.
This is a petition to ask last.fm to change it back.
    Sign below.

Also, if you haven't already voiced your concerns here, do so.

  • Silly College Pranks or What Sound Does a Mastodon Make?

    6 Jun 2007, 21:40 by Breitbarth

So in college I discovered a band known as The Fall of Troy.

Characterized by , ungenrable lyrics, uncontrollable dancablity, an elitist fan-based and an unrestricted abrasion of sound. I fell in love.

I listened to this band CONSTANTLY!! I saw them live twice. I introduced them to my floor mates. And I head-banged not-stop.

I am unfamiliar with the rest of the country/world's collegiate humor, but a my school one of many constant pranks was playing something extremely loud in your poorly insulated room and locking the door. Most of the time, in the male dorms in was porn. In the female dorms it was some annoyingly-person pop track.

In retrospect, my choice medium related more to the girls. I would usually play The Number 12 Looks Like You or Genghis Tron or Pig Destroyer or Norma Jean. Something crazy. However, more often than the rest, one band answered the call of necessary annoyance/rocking-out. The Fall of Troy.

Those on the floor that knew them, loved them, and they were few. Those that didn't...They banged on my door repeatedly, not realizing I was at the Dining Hall or cruising country roads.

So I sit here now and reminisce. At the start of this insertion, "What Sound Does A Mastodon Make?" rang truer than ever. Just as "Reassurance Rests in the Sea" does now.

This is the first time I've listened to The Fall of Troy continuously in a long time. And it feels right.

Really, what rocks harder than a question you want answered? What sound does a Mastodon make?

Strangely, even their newest CD, Manipulator, sounds good right now.

I hope I'm talking to loud for you to not listen.
  • A lot of New shit! Fall of Troy, Omar A Rodriguez Lopez, Chiodos

    1 May 2007, 06:30 by Drewskee

Today has been probabally my newest muic day ever- I say that like it possibly makes sense, but fuck it. I had to drive to Manhattan to empty out my dorm, so I burned myself 2 albums. First, the brand new The Fall of Troy cd, Manipulator. This is possibly my new favorite album. I think this album worked very well considering The Fall of Troy's expirmental mentallity has always been there. They have always been on the edge of what is post-hardcore and what is progressive rock. It;s really interesting because this genre is really Progressive Hardcore, if not actually just progressive everything. Each song is very different, I wish I wasn't to lazy to go into detail, but basicly there are 5 really awesome, full out mosh breakdowns, which they usually never play. Hell there are even 2 straight up Chugga Chugga breakdowns. In between that, you have a very interesting blend of rock and and even and oddl Blood Brothers style pop, combined well with Thomas' high piched screams and his new deeper screams. Also some girl sings on the album, and it works very well in contrast, its very high pitched though and can get a little annoying. I think this is a positive change for a hardcore band to be less generic (unlike the new He is Legend, which is just fucking bland). Yea. This is not well written but what ever. Listen to it. Enjoy the danciness, scream loud, and feel free to parking lot mosh.

One things that bothers me though is, this is Thomas Erak's album more than ever. Tim's bass lines are turned down much more, to the point they aren't noticeable, and Andrew's drums are toned down and simplifyed, but his signature fills are also there. Oh did I also mention there is a song with just Thom playing guitar and singing.

Yea some of these songs have shitty lyrics, but who cares? The overall sound is great and diverse...

Basicly, if you like calm rock suddenly going ape-shit into a brutal poppy hardcore with dancable traa laa laa no one reads this anyways. Yea just get the album anyways or eat a dick.

I also got the new Omar A. Rodriguez Lopez album. its pretty sweet, With cedric guesting, its like having 3 new mars volta songs. Its very cinematic and the shortened wordless "Please Heat this eventually" is much better than the pile of shit the 30 minute song was.

OH! I just heard the new Chiodos demo on myspace. Its really cool, there is dual vocals, craig owens, and possibly also craig owens, I have no idea, but its much deeper and gutteral, but not to generic hardcore. Basicly its Chiodos but less pussy. Thats a lie, you can't be chiodos without being a pussy.
  • Madden NFL 08 Soundtrack Predictions

    15 Feb 2007, 01:33 by SpammySammy

I dunno if they've made it yet (it hasn't been announced, of course) but this is what I want/what I expect.

If they keep doing the same music styles as the last two years, it might look something like this:

    Season
    Happiness By The Kilowatt
    Sunday
    Handcuffs
    Intro
Teasing to Please (Left Side, Strong Side)
I've Got All This Ringing In My Ears And None On My Fingers
    All the Rage
    When Darkness Falls
    Got the Life
    Fly Out
    Take a Bow
    The End
    Linoleum
London Beckoned Songs About Money Written by Machines
    My Heart
    Can't Stop
    You're Cute When You Scream
    Leaving
    Tomorrow I'll Be You
    Declaration
    Bulimic

I know some artists were already used in the 06 soundtrack, but they've been known to repeat a couple of bands.

The songs are a complete guess, but I'm like 75% sure about some of the artists. =P

Reply with your thoughts about who's gonna be on the next Madden soundtrack.

Step 1: Put your iTunes or equivalent on random.
Step 2: Post the first lines from the first 50 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing.
Step 3: Comment with song title and artist.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

    Yes.

    more music.

about to hit the 5K mark.

i've been getting more into the heavier hardcore stuff.

i used to not like the screaming.

The Fall Of Troy changed that.

    thank you, Thomas Erak.

    thank you, Timothy Ward.

    thank you, Andrew Forsman.

    Music is good.

i'm branching out into a new music style that i used to make fun of. at first it started out as guilty pleasure i would listen to only with my headphones. Now i blast it in my G-Wagon like it's nothing. So if you live in my area and see a white woody coming at you with The Fall Of Troy louder than you ever thought it could be, thats me.

At first my friends didnt like the idea of me listening to this music. they were too into their rap and mainstream poprock. Everytime i would put in some Circa Survive they would give me a stare i can'e describe. over time they got used to it and a few of them have an interest in this new music and have started listening to it themselves.

    Indeed, Music is good.
