When you buy an album, very little of it goes to the artist. Artists usually make their money from concerts, so the whole 'supporting the artist' is rubbish. I do buy music often, frequently second hand, meaning none of it goes to the artist. Partly because I I'm a collector, and like to have a physical product, partly because there is higher quality possible (and I can choose any quality I wish), and partly because I do not trust my computer. One crash, and the entire collection's gone.

i agree like if i really like the album though i'll just go and buy it on vinyl and usually they have a free link to the digital album that comes with so it's a win win situation

Paying for music is not stupid, some of us simply care for the artists more and feel compelled to give something back for all the hard work they do. Piratism is like a two-edged sword. You download something for free which takes a slice of artist's salary, but on the other hand, by listening to music you become a fan and show up on concerts and tours, which is most important. As far as I'm concerned, you get into music business because you have a passion for music, not for money. If you have enough time to worry about your lost album sales and make a huge ruckus about piratism because people are stealing your money, you should get a real job. The fact that people pirate your music simply implies that there's interest for it. That being said, I do not really like the group name as it glorifies theft, which has nothing to do with piratism to begin with. Piratism is copying, not stealing.

This group is stupid. Not because it's morally wrong, but because it perpetuates the myth that piracy somehow equates theft. If you steal something, you take the original item. If you pirate something, you simply copy it. I'm sure the MAFIAA loves you guys for using their arguments for them.

Moralists can suck my dick. I think it's great to support the artists you love, don't get me wrong, but not all of us can afford to do so. At the end of the day, music is meant to be enjoyed by everyone, not only for people with a buck. Besides, artists get more money touring than they do selling albums, because there's a hefty percentage of the revenue taken by the producers and various other leeches.

The RIAA is only a protection racket to keep an archaic system of distribution in practice. Ever wonder why they haven't put Itunes players in cars? The RIAA lobbies against it, they're also lobbying the government for a law that would mandate every smartphone to have an FM radio.
