I respect who wrote them and what feelings and ideas those stories come from I feel for it immensely. time and again it is driven home that this guy was more than just the stories he wrote he was also a -special- -kind- -of- -person-.The process of delving into the black abyss is to me the keenest form of fascination.   I dont understand what the other group is supposed to be and it has a lot more people in that but hey this is "Howard Phillips Lovecraft" short and to the point. WTF is up wit' that other one.. I hope my doll is exposes you to more of the mythos! And like.. makes you smile and think and stuff. I love Lovecraft a lot more than his stories I have a lot of empathy for what he was writing about and the way he thought. Its incredible that someone so depressive and sick, and who had a rather depressing short life.. I dunno I never knew him but for someone as disturbed as he was he loved life a lot. Very impassioned and curious individual.

  I see your point, Eishera. Much as I admire Lovecraft's works, I must say that not all his stories are good (some are great, but there is a few poor ones). Nevertheless, the presence of the, let's say, Lovecraftian hero has its purpose, and exploring it would be a great topic for an academic paper :) I personally don't see anything wrong about Lovecraft (over)using certain adjectives. It's just another characteristic feature of his writing.

  I guess you'll feel offended by what I'm about to say. The only story I really liked so far is "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward". Maybe one or two other stories are relatively good, too. It seems to me that many stories of him contain a character, who saw or felt something that was so gruesome that he can't describe it properly. Well, this instrument might be impressive when you read it for the first two times, but I have to say this effect outwears really fast and leaves me annoyed more and more every time I'm trying to read his stuff. Well, he sure has some thrilling passages, but his tendency to build in the "unnameable" and the "blasphemous" everywhere he can really abates it's effect significantly.
