NICKELBACK - GRUNGE OR NOT?

  • NICKELBACK - GRUNGE OR NOT?

I am so intersted in what do people think about Nickelback,a band that I like. Is it true grunge and what's their quality?

  • Just no. The music is corporate, shitty, post-grunge bullshit that's basically the same song remarketed every two years.

  • They're not grunge. They're awful.

  • Is it true grunge

No, at least not according to what my concept of "grunge" is. Grunge isn't a sound, but if you're referring to grunge as a sound, you're only talking about Green River as they were the first to be described with the term grunge. Now, with what I believe grunge really is, is any band that originated from Seattle, WA and the surrounding area. So, not only does this include the automatic "grunge" bands, but also bands such as Heart, Jimi Hendrix, Sleater-Kinney and Modest Mouse. Nickelback, however, does not fit either of those defintions.

    what's their quality?

I could just go the simple route and say "shit" but thats no fun. Nickelback, along with Shinedown, Puddle of Mudd, Creed, Godsmack, and to a lesser extinct Staind are all Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam rip-offs. I understand bands have influences and their favorite bands, but simply ripping off a band that was famous 10 years ago just doesn't cut it. At least add something to the music, have some kind of creativity and originality in there. Aside from being complete rip-offs, Nickelback can't even be creative within their own library. They use the same structure for every song with little or no variation, so of course all their songs sound very similar. The lyrics are suspect at best and come off as nothing other than updated 80s cock rock shit. My opinion? Two thumbs down and they're lucky I don't have more thumbs.

  • I think they are shit and they have ''NOTHING'' to do with grunge.

Not impressed by that band. Should've even TRIED to invent something new, something own.

There are dozens of similar bands. That's simply too much.

Gonna break my rusty cage...and run.

  • Nickelback isnt grunge... they're crap

I'm interested in anything about revolt, disorder, chaos, especially activity that appears to have no meaning. It seems to me to be the road toward freedom.

  • Grunge is anti-corporate ... Nickelback definately isn't

As for as sound goes, theyre kinda "pop" grunge in my opinion
Of course, pop can never really go with grunge

Also, grunge implies talent, and Nickelback has none, so ...

NO, Nickelback is not at all grunge

Good analogy: Nickelback is to grunge as Emo is to Rock

  • Do I even have to say this? NO! Face it: they're just crap.

Prepare to suck cock in hell. It's really not all that bad once you get past the smell.
  • Nickleback hahaha! please.

Nickelback is somewhat post-grunge. They somehow fit into that genre.
    But yea, they blow.

And post-grunge is pretty much ripping off the Big Four from Seattle.

Well, half of the big 4 had/have roots in the first wave. I'm not up to date on the histories of Nirvana and Alice in Chains though.

how very nice of you to say all this. :/
i'm not exactly mainstream whore myself, but for some very good reason some band get the chance to be world-wide recognized while other remain mostly unknown. believe it or not, the quality of the band is still the part of sucess equation.

Nickelback has some grunge influences in the image and some similarity in general vocal style to post-grunge, but musically they're just hard-rock/riff-rock. And bad at it too.

I would say that Nickelback is the second phase of Creed's influence.

...and that's when I declared holy war!
