Description:
Greenpeace exists because this fragile earth deserves a voice. It needs solutions. It needs change. It needs action.
We want you to take action and be part of this great community
for saving the world, our world, our home.
for saving the world, our world, our home.

Here are some actions in which you can take part:
1. Stop Climate Change
We want you to take part in an energy revolution.
To go from a world powered by nuclear and fossil
fuels to one running on renewable energy.
To go from a world powered by nuclear and fossil
fuels to one running on renewable energy.
* Challenge your leaders. At every election, public meeting,
survey, let them know that climate change is the top issue.
Ask officials what they are doing to tackle climate change.
* Switch to energy efficient lighting.
* Protect ancient forests: use recycled paper.
* Know where your electricity comes from: find a green electricity
provider that uses neither coal nor nuclear.
2. Defending Our Oceans
Fundamental changes need to be made in the way our oceans are managed. This means that we must act to make sure that human activities are sustainable, in other words that they meet human needs of current and future generations without causing harm to the environment. Accordingly, governments must set aside 40 percent of our oceans as marine reserves. Marine reserves can be defined as areas of the ocean in which the exploitation of all living resources is prevented, together with the exploitation of non-living resources such as sand and gravel and other minerals.
3. Protect Ancient Forests
These magnificent ancient forests are under threat. More than 87 human cultures have been lost in Brazil alone; in the next 10 to 20 years, the world looks set to lose thousands of species of plants and animals. But there is a last chance to SAVE these forests and the people and species that depend on them.
Make sure your home is forest friendly by visiting our Forest House.
4. Demand Peace And Desarmament
Make no mistake; nuclear weapons are a problem today. There are approximately 30,000 nuclear weapons in the world, belonging to nine countries: US, Russian Federation, UK, France, China, Israel, India, Pakistan and North Korea. More than one thousand five hundred of them ready to launch at a moment's notice, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
And people are with us: the majority of people and states want disarmament now!
5. Say No To Genetic Engineering
- Go to the Food section to find out about: labelling legislation for GE products in your country, how GE crops are used in animal feed and the corporate giants who are trying to control what you eat.
- Go to the Feeding the world - facts versus fiction section: to find out the truth about world hunger and why GE crops will not help.
- Go to the GE agriculture and genetic pollution section to find out about: the dangers of GE agriculture, which crops are currently being developed, genetic pollution and the dangers of patenting life.
- Go to the Biosafety Protocol section to find out about this important legislation that regulates the transboundary movements of GE and who is for and against it.
- Go to the Failings of GE section to find out about how the biotech industry is basing its products on crude and old-fashioned science.
6. Eliminate Toxic Chemicals
Toxic chemicals in our environment threaten our rivers and lakes, our air, land, and oceans, and ultimately ourselves and our future.
7. End The Nuclear Age
We need an energy system that can fight climate change, based on renewable energy and energy efficiency. Nuclear power already delivers less energy globally than renewable energy, and the share will continue to decrease in the coming years.
8. Encourage Sustainable Trade
The World Trade Organisation (WTO) promotes free
trade for the gain of private interests, over and above
our health and the environment. It is fatally flawed and
is moving the world in the wrong direction - away from
peace, security and sustainability. By stalling on issues
that are crucial to poorer countries, the WTO faces a
crisis of legitimacy.

peace, security and sustainability. By stalling on issues
that are crucial to poorer countries, the WTO faces a

* The WTO is secretive, non-transparent and undemocratic. Meetings are by invitation only, are hidden from public view and are closed to direct public input.
* The WTO puts trade on the highest pedestal - before our health and the environment.
* This is because the WTO is driven by narrow corporate interests, like genetic engineering companies and the agri-business.
* These companies are behind the US attempt to use the WTO as a tool to force feed the world genetically engineered (GE) food.
* The WTO threatens crucial environmental agreements, like the first legally binding global agreement that allows countries to reject genetically modified organisms, the Biosafety Protocol.
* So-called "free" trade is speeding up the use of natural resources such as water, forests, fisheries, and minerals, much faster than they can be regenerated.
* In essence, the WTO is a tool of rich and powerful countries. Poorer countries are losing out to the interests of the industrialised world.
