Come On Live Long formed in late 2010. Having met through mutual friends, the band recorded their debut EP over a winter weekend in the West of Ireland just weeks after their inception. The result is the free to download Come On Live Long EP which can be downloaded via Bandcamp.

By combining the use of samplers, synths, ukeleles, guitars, keys and percussion Come On Live Long blend a common love for all things electronic with their folk roots to attain a sound that is both energetic and melodic.

he brainchild of 26-year-old Brighton born singer/songwriter Mike Rosenberg, Passenger is redefining the troubadour for the 21st century. Formerly a five-piece band, Passenger has now pared back to basics, quite literally bringing music to the streets on a series of lengthy busking journeys across Australia, America and the United Kingdom. A classic journeyman musician, cut from the same mould as Van Morrison, Neil Young and John Prine, Passenger has the unique ability to move from the humorous to heartbreaking with every song.

Woodkid is Yoann Lemoine (Lyon, March 1983) , previously known for his career as a video director (Yelle, Moby, Katy Perry, Lana Del Rey). After studying in London, and during a shoot in the USA, Woodkid received, straight from the hands of great American guitarist Richie Havens, a banjo that immediately replaced his piano, at least for a while.

His debut album, The Golden Age, was released on March 18, 2013,through independent label, green united music. It features orchestrations by Bruno Bertoli and is mixed by Julien Delfaud. The next single to be extracted from the album was “I Love You” which features a Pharrel Williams remix.

It’s been only 3 years since Iceland’s new king of lo-fi layered lushness, Sindri Már Sigfússon, began his official recording career. “Summer Echoes”, the new and second album of his solo-project Sin Fang (he dropped the “Bous”) is now already his 4th album release (including 2 records of his other musical outlet Seabear) since 2007. The album oscillates wildly unearthing glimpses of familiarity - vintage Flying Nun here, Paw Tracks there and a Belle and Sebastian pop nous - while retaining the own stark originality of this uber-talented artist and producer.

Through that summer of 2005 and the spring of 2006 they recorded with appearances and contributions of friends at Jace Lasek’s Breakglass Studio. It was subsequently released in July 2010 in the U.S.A. by Paper Bag Records, and received a long list nomination for the 2010 Polaris Music Prize.

The band followed up in fall 2010 with YG No Art EP, an EP comprising unreleased tracks and remixes from the Invisible Republic sessions.

Foxygen is an American indie rock duo originally formed in Westlake Village, California in 2005 by Jonathan Rado and Sam France, “high school kids obsessed with the Brian Jonestown Massacre

After their formation in 2005, the band played wildly experimental music, which featured many influences from 60s psychedelia and avant-garde. They self-released many EPs between 2007 and 2011, only a few of which are still available. In early 2011, they were ‘discovered’ by famed producer Richard Swift, with whom they recorded their Take the Kids Off Broadway EP, which was also self-released at some point in mid-2011. The group were later signed on to Jagjaguwar Records. Their first studio album, Take the Kids Off Broadway, was released by Jagjaguwar on July 24, 2012. On January 22, 2013, Jagjaguwar will release Foxygen’s second album, We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic. This album was produced by Richard Swift and recorded at his National Freedom studio earlier this year. “Shuggie,” the first single from the record, was released on October 4, 2012

  • Discovery of new musical treats.

    24 Sep 2011, 19:00 by Rhyme79

Don't you just love it when you 'accidently' stumble across something that makes your cliched neck hair stand up and remember why you love music so much?

    Yeah me too!

This track is really getting me through the day.God's Army

Conversely, isn't it peachy when you rediscover a track or an artist that you used to love? All of a sudden, a previously doted upon composition turns up on the telly or something. Something like this perhaps, Towers of Dub

These are some of the reasons why we love music so goddamn much, it just keeps coming and coming, and then comes again!

    What have you (re)discovered lately?

  • LOST SOUL - "IMMERSE IN INFINITY" (Death metal album of the year 2009?) [ reviews…

    17 Mar 2011, 12:07 by Qbiak00

"...The cruel force of Vital Remains, precision of "Evangelion", grim parts of Immolation, and jazz deviations of Death with a little bit of Morbid Angel's darkness are all here, on "Immerse In Infinity". Simply fantastic!"
METAL HAMMER POLAND - Album of the month!

"Final verdict? Immerse in Infinity is definitely one of last year’s best death metal albums. The long but intense tracks never get boring and the instrumental capabilities of the band members are so extremely enjoyable to listen to. I hope this will finally get Lost Soul on the map and on the road as well. If the band can match the standards they have set on cd, we can expect something huge!"
    www.metalrage.com - Immerse in Infinity

"What a talent to write songs (Simulation), to play guitar solos (216) and to construct riffs (…If The Dead Can Speak). Lost Soul has proven that within the boundaries of death metal still great creations can surface from out of the infinity. The new death metal MASTERS from Poland. My soul is lost forever."
    heavymetalcosmos.eu - Immerse in Infinity

"One of the best things about metal is taking the time to find quality albums like this so I highly recommend a visit to Witching Hours website to obtain what is clearly, for me, one of the best death metal albums of 2009."
    www.metalobsession.net - Immerse in Infinity

"This is a big step up for an already good band, and deserves plenty of attention from death metal fans. They are an underrated act, and this record can stand alongside the highpoints of 2009’s death metal scene without yielding an inch. "
    www.metalreviews.com - Immerse in Infinity

"After four years of musical non-existence, in 2009 Lost Soul released "Immerse In Infinity", probably their best album. They managed to fuse technical death metal with at least as much musicality to make it listenable for a common metalhead. For a death metal fan this CD is a must-have."
    www.ultimate-guitar.com - Immerse in Infinity

"To put it simply, Immerse in Infinity is like the interstellar evolution of Immersed in Blood, equally brutal but bathed in a futuristic disposition. Never once does the staggering musical ability of the band interfere with the steady puncture of the songwriting. It's disgustingly humbling and thorough in its hostile statement of intent: if you thought Lost Soul meant business before, they now OWN that business. Enjoy."
    www.autothrall.blogspot.com - Immerse in Infinity

"Incredibly, these Polish death metallers are something of a dark horse, as not many seem to know about them. Chaostream, their newest album prior to this one, was released in 2005 and is arguably one of the best DM records released in the 2000’s. Still, not much recognition (that would’ve been much deserved) has fallen upon this awesome band, which is really intriguing and sad, ‘cause they kick even Behemoth’s ass. And that’s not saying a little. Well, now they’re finally back with “Immerse in Infinity”. Is it any good? Is it as good as one could hope, considering the prequel? Is Stevie Wonder blind? Well… [...]"

  • Best Albums of 2011 / Upcoming Releases

    10 Jan 2011, 20:47 by hurricane_mario

RIP this journal. Here's the upcoming releases I actually care about:
Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn Of Events
Devin Townsend - Ghost 2 (September)
Nightwish - Storytime (Single September, Album December)
Old Silver Key (Alcest) - Tales of Wanderings (Sept 16)
We Came As Romans - Understanding What We've Grown To Be (9/13/11)
    Angels & Airwaves - LOVE PART 2 (11.11.11)
Lunar Aurora - ? (December, hopefully!)

    2011 Releases:
    1) Format is "Artist - Album (Genre) (Best songs, if I so choose)"
    2) Note that these ratings are based on the album as a whole, not individual songs. This includes production quality, how cohesive all of the songs sound, etc. I definitely prefer concept albums, which progress through a story or similar type of thing.
    3) You will note I have a fairly eclectic taste in music. The fact is, if I listened to the album in it's entirety, it's going in here. If I couldn't finish, it's 2.5 or below, or not in here. Also (obviously) if it's bad it's 2.5 or below.
    4) I feel the need to add "...blew away expectations" or "...disappointment" to the end of some of these. Should be self-explanatory.
    5) Please comment/dispute these and recommend releases I missed!

    1. Woods of Desolation - Torn Beyond Reason (Atmospheric/Depressive Black Metal) (The Inevitable End, November) ...blew away expectations

  • My favorite (mostly metal) albums of 2010 - Final list!

    30 Dec 2010, 23:55 by hurricane_mario

I am fairly open-minded (as you should be), so expect any genre in here, though metal is definitely my favorite. However, I usually won't bother to review non-metal releases unless it's one of the extremes - really good, or really bad and I feel like trashing it. Though, I'm just realizing that my taste has shifted away from metal even more this year...

This is my final list, containing almost every album I have listened to which came out in 2010. I will not be updating this entry any more unless someone enlightens me to something super-fantastic that came out this year that I missed. I can’t believe 2010 is over already, it seems like yesterday it was new years eve, and now it is tomorrow again. I will likely not do a list like this again next year, its too much work. But it's been fun and a good way to keep track of the excessive amounts of music I like. Perhaps next year just a top 20 and other great ones.

A playlist including one song off each of the top 20 albums and 7 other songs, is up on my blog as of 1/9/11... Go download it (link in my profile)! Songs with an asterisk next to them are on my blog, I will try to get all the top 20 (Except Alex Band due to a complaint) on the blog by the end of January.

Bold albums are a must-listen! Top 20 are in order, rest of categories are alphabetical. " ...disappointment" means albums I could not wait for did not meet or exceed expectations.

Keep in mind, I am rating these albums as a whole, not judging it based on the quality of particular songs. For example, if there are no songs that stand out as good, but the album is a concept album that reveals to me the meaning of life through music, it would probably be #1. Production is a BIG part of my review process as well, it's 2010 so I want my albums to sound futuristic, refined and shiny!

And please comment, either to debate my reviews or to recommend me albums I don't know about!

    "Top 10" Updates:
March 17 - Almost time for someone to get kicked off the top 10! How exciting.
March 20 - Rage + Troll kicked. Replaced with Alcest + Les Discrets. I knew they would make it into my list.
March 27 - True kicked because I simply haven't listened, whereas other albums have been on constant repeat. Replaced with Sofa Surfers.
April 24 - Sorry I've been pretty busy with school and whatnot, so I am not trying as many albums as I want to, and definitely am not even touching this journal even though I want to. Wilds Forlorn kicked for Mago de oz. Finally, cause i heard this album 2+ weeks ago.)
June 16 - Tough choice, but had to make room for Lantlos. Sorry Kalmah.
June 17 - Kicked 8,9,10... Mago De Oz, Counterparts, Six Magics, cause I'm realizing they don't quite match up to the others. Added The Breathing Process because I suddenly realized how revolutionary it sounds.
July 10 - Not reviewing Senmuth albums anymore unless there's something phenomenal, as the rate of releases is overwhelming. If he takes his time to really flesh out his vision we get something amazing and unique like "Секененра" but most of his releases are good (7/10) at best.
July 27 - The Breathing Process re-kicked (lol) for some new stuff that I have been very addicted to (Including kalmah which I previously kicked but now I love more, go figure). Tough choice but there's only 10 slots. Have a feeling I'll extend it to 15 or 20 by years end.
Aug 31 - Alcest kicked for Angra.
Oct 22 - Burzum and Analog Rebellion kicked because I simply haven't listened. I've been addicted to Arid and Rev. Renaissance.
Oct 24 - Kalmah kicked for depreciation guild
