  The new double CD release by Alexandre Tharaud is well worth getting - don't miss it. Tharaud dug deeper into Satie than is typical in what he chose to play. I think he assumes everyone has enough recordings of the Gymnopédies (though the first one is included). So you get to hear pieces you may not have heard yet - unless you've played them yourself. It sounds like they had a lot of fun recording this album. Tharaud is a fairly precise player and the sound is clean so it doesn't exactly sound like you're sitting in Le Chat Noir. But the performances are great and you'll get a wider sense of Satie who was much more than people give him credit for. It's released by Harmonia Mundi so the packaging, notes, etc are all first rate. Plus you can download six extra tracks off of the HM site.
