    Abdel Gadir Salim

Does Gadir Salim really sing in Nobiin? thought he mostly sang in Sudanese Arabic. gotta find out where he sings in Nobiin.
there's another great Nubian artist out of Sudan, Mohammed Wardi. increadible voice! though he mostly sings in arabic, there's an old recording on youtube where he performes in non-arabic and plays Tanbour, though recordings from that era seem impossible to track.

    Re: Abdel Gadir Salim

I understand what you mean. I've only a few tracks by Abdel Gadir Salim and they are all in Arabic. An acquaintance from Sudan told me, though, that he'd sung in Nubian in the past. According to her, his old cassettes with the Nubian tracks are out of print but she'll inform me if she finds sth.

Btw, though I currently don't have any of his albums I am quite familiar with Mohammed Wardi; he's a big star in Somalia. But I didn't know either that he ever sang in Nubian.

Many thanks, -tgt-. Given how young he's on this recording, this is probably from the 70's. Great artist, indeed! Tartalo will add him to the list soon.

    Al Balabil, The Sudanese Dreamgirls!
Many youtube clips, i recommend all lovers of east-african music to do a youtube search for Al Balabil (The Nightingales in english).
They still perform today, only the big tall sister is missing. Family life.
