Emerging Electronica

  • Emerging Electronica

We all know how damn near impossible it is for talented emerging acts to get noticed and heard in the ever-increasing din that is today's music industry. The more affordable and accessible it becomes to be a bedroom producer, the more the internet gets flooded with substandard unmemorable durge, making discerning listeners less and less inclined to give unknown artists a try. MySpace has become little more than an oversized, clunky database for spam - 1000s of desperate artists demanding to have their music heard but unwilling to listen to anyone else. Of all the friend requests our project (EntropiK) gets, about 1% of them are from people who have actually listened to and enjoyed the music. It all becomes a bit pointless and hugely frustrating for listeners and artists alike. Last FM on the other hand is a brilliant concept and the most cleverly conceived idea to discover new music. It's still a tough place for lesser known artists to get noticed, as they only get frequently scrobbled once they've achieved several thousand plays. Which is the point of this thread.
From our experience, people are more willing to give new music a try when it comes with a recommendation from someone other than the artists themselves. So we're kicking off with the following listening suggestions and we invite everyone who knows of some great electronica known by few but deserved to be known by many! Any artist with less than 5000 plays (give or take) who you think is worth lending a helping hand to.

A sublime cocktail of electronica, classical, techno and goth. Let's keep this thread alive and give talented emerging artists the recognition they deserve.

  • The Blush Foundation

Sydney electro duo The Blush Foundation are well known in some parts of Australia but haven't really hit the internet scene yet.

“Electro pop duo The Blush Foundation bring synth-pop from he 80s and reapply it to the modern scene, each sound a delicate brush-stroke to create a new picture in sounds. These two ladies are definitely a band to listen (and watch) out for.”

  • There truly is some incredible talent out there hidden amongst the mediocre and awful durge that we constantly get spammed and bombarded by on the Net. It's good to see a few people doing what they can to help lift the good stuff out of the mire.
Just had a listen to the aforementioned bands and added them both to my library. The Blush Foundation has a real Goldfrapp feel to their sound. Lovely stuff.

My personal favourite in the category of emerging electro is EntropiK. They have just gone through to the finals at The People's Music Awards with the track Sirius. They deserve to go all the way in this competition, so please have a listen and cast your vote for them at the above link!

  • I'd like to give a shout out, in that case, to my buddy ironfinger - the least spammy electronica myspace i've seen - cool stuff though... kinda like a less evil aphex twin or boards of canada but with bigger balls

my own tunes however suck balls, so i'm not gonna tell you where to find them (in the interests of not spamming, you understand)

  • Ricoshay - South African Electronica Duo

Take a listen to our artist Ricoshay:

'Ricoshay' is a fusion of musical genres, created by two experienced South African musicians. Its members Mark Norrie and Gary Hiebner started the project in an attempt to create a sound that is dynamic, experimental and modern.

Big beats, brass sounds, electrifying sonic bass and ska-like guitars lay the foundation for catchy vocal hooks and harmonies. The duo has completed their debut album through Soundbase Records.

Take a listen, and let us know your thoughts.

  • Suburban Dream

Worth a listen, the new release seems to be getting the odd scrobble. It's chilled out electronica that seems to be slowly making its way to more and more ears!
