The Durutti Column is named after a somewhat famous brochure distributed by the French Situationist International. The SI was marxist but took the name from Durruti, the Spanish anarchist, for the brochure called Le Retour de la Colonne Durutti (The Return of the Durutti Column) which is a classic example of detournement. Right here on Last.fm I read it was due to a spelling mistake that the group's name is not Durruti - but that spanish anarchist would be meant...

Buenaventura Durruti wasn't a famous spanish writer, he was republican spanish leader during the Spanish Civil War. I think that between his name and 'The Durutti Column there are any relation nothing at all. Anyway, the spanish militiaman has a division called 'Columna Durruti. Can someone explain this confusion?

hello everybody, i'm from Brazil and my real name is Durutti. I never listened the durutti column and my english is a shit, but if you could tell me what the conection with Buenaventura Durutti, a famous spanish writter, and the Durutti Column, i'll thank you.
