Artist Connections

  • Artist Connections

    Hi all,

There's been a rethink about how we decide how to connect artists to the group. We're just going to connect and disconnect artists if we feel it needs to be done without filling the forum with rules. If people think someone should be added or removed, just ask...

Also, If there are any members that make their own music then I will be happy to add that to the list also provided it is roughly within downtempo. So far I've added:

    Planet Bliss by bliss000
    Andy Mantell by andymantell
    Jap Jap by jasperboer
    Northcape by northcape
    Sean Mcferrin by SeanMcferrin
    Compl33t by compl33t
    Vision and Loss by crumblingflesh
    Subsollo by subsollo

    Cheers

    Andy

    Andy,

I'd already listened to 3 out of the 4 above. I didn't realise you did your own stuff as well!

Love the PlayCrisp track. Is there anywhere we can download the tracks from?

Anyway back to the purpose of this thread. I do make my own music, but currently everything I do is extremely amateurish sounding! Also I often use a sample of something or other and so tend not to upload things in case of copyright ramifications.

My favourite piece I did was a sort of mash-up of PlayAin't No Sunshine with PlayFixed Income and PlayWhy Does My Heart Feel So Bad? with a bit of my own stuff thrown in for good measure. If anyone wants to listen, just send me a message.

Also, do the recommendations have to be members of the group or Last.FMers in general?

Marshall Watson by marshallw is pretty good too.

    Cheers,

    Dudge

Glad you liked them! You are supposed to be able to download them from last.fm but they haven't sorted that yet. In the meantime you can download the tracks from my website here:

    http://www.andymantell.co.uk/music/Crisp.mp3
    http://www.andymantell.co.uk/music/Vegetable Proof.mp3

    and a mashup I did:

    http://www.andymantell.co.uk/music/98_Degrees_Invisible_Man_Remix.mp3

I should warn you though, the mashup is very cheesy :-D I haven't put it up here for copyright reasons same as you... Shame it's so cheesy really as I was rather pleased with the track overall. It's the first and last mashup I ever did. It has me pretending to play bass again btw :-)

Fair enough, you're probably right not to upload them if they do include samples...

That sounds extremely weird, can I have a listen! :-D Email it to andymantell@hotmail.com if you can!

He seems to be connected to the group already so that's fine. I'll have a listen to him later...

    Andy,

I've sent the file to you.

That sounds extremely weird, can I have a listen! :-D

Ha ha. I know what you mean. It actually all works really well together (but then I would say that).

It does take a while to get going, but I still love it.

    Comments would be great.

Now I promise not to hijack this thread anymore with shameless self-promotion!

  • Hey I like this :-D It's not cheesy at all. One thing, maybe mix the vocals a touch higher in places? They sound very slightly drowned out.

Other than that its good, you should do more :-)

Would you like me to host it for you so more people here can hear it?

    Thanks Andy,

I've actually got my own domain - so i'll stick it up there soon. In the meantime best if people just PM me.

Other than that its good, you should do more :-)

I know I should, but sadly my day job (I'm an accountant, sorry) limits the time I can spend on it, but I intend to make time as it's so enjoyable.

    Cheers,

    Dudge

EDIT: right I've finally uploaded it. It's here.

I was looking for a way to promote my downtempo project called THE OTHER GUY when I found this site. If you are into tripped out experimental Beats then I would love fo you to check us out.

Our music is available for download on Juno

    Thanks for your time!

  • Hi Drama,

If you're serious about promoting your music here on last.fm and and this group you really need to get your music up here on last.fm. I suspect most people won't bother to follow that link to juno (I haven't yet) but if your music is up here with previews then you will likely get more exposure. I sometimes tag music as and then listen to it later when it comes up on my personal radio.

Anyways, get your music streamable up here and I will happily add you to the artist connections once I've had a listen.

    Cheers

    Drama,

I've followed the link but it just says

Sorry, but there aren't any products to display here.

But I'll second what Andy says, get your stuff up on Last.FM - you'll get more exposure that way.

    Cheers,

    Dudge

  • Another track up here by me! It's one I made a little while ago now, and I only just found it again so I figured I'd put it up here. It's not amazing but it's quite a relaxing one. Give it a listen and let me know what you think...

  • Vision and Loss

    Hey Andy,
Just joined today, i have a project of my own called Vision and Loss. I consider it to be downtempo anyway, particularly tracks like Play...But She Feels Just Like My Man. If you could consider me for an artist connection that would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,

Sorry for the delayed reply, I'm seriously busy with coursework at the moment... I've connected you to the group, some really interesting tracks you've got there... EDIT: In fact, Im enjoying this quite a lot, I'll recommend it to a few groups as well... :-) Whoops, just realised you've already recommended it to Downtempo! Oh well..

@Shoguer: Welcome to the group, a good place to start would probably be the downtempo global tag. Give it a listen and go from there. It's got most of the common downtempo artists on there. If you like what you here then I daresay people here could reccommend some more obscure stuff for you. I do think to fully appreciate the genre you do need to venture beyond the likes of Zero 7 and Air. Not that they aren't any good - I used to like them but perhaps they arent the most interesting of listens....

    Cheers

  • Psonikadia

    Hi Andy,
I've stumbled upon this group, whilst listening to Pliir similar artist. Nikolas who writes Pliir has a swedish netlabel called el-jlud, which has released one of my ep's. I heard a Adam Johnson track which I think is excellent and this led me to downtempo - I'm glad I did!
I thought you might want to add my tracks that are on last.fm - there all pretty much downtempo
    check them out Psonikadia

    cheers mate

    happy new year!

  • Hi,

    Recomendation my Fav artist:

  • New Music...

    Hi there...

Some stuff you might find interesting here from Freshly Squeezed Music

    Lemon
    The Voodoo Trombone Quartet
    Foxgluv
    Stereo De Luxe

    No gunk, no junk...
  • Hi...

@Spirit23: I wouldn't call that downtempo tbh. It's really nice and chilled but it's more just slow relaxing music than downtempo. Thanks for the suggestion though, I'm gonna whack it on my I want to hear this tag...

@JustJuice: Thanks very much for your suggestions, I was expecting to run through them quickly deciding if they were downtempo or not but I've rather got stuck listening to Lemon, it's really quite good :-) Anyways, I'll get to the others in a minute when Lemon has finished and let you know if I connect them...

Are any of them your own projects? If so I'll a credit in the first post. Last.fm users projects are particularly welcome here, we've got to keep the underground going :-)

    Cheers guys,

    Andy

  • Further to my last post, I've connected:

    Lemon
    The Voodoo Trombone Quartet
& Voodoo Trombone Quartet seeing as they're the same

But I wasn't so sure about Foxgluv and Stereo De Luxe being downtempo.

Feel free to argue, it's really hard deciding what is and isn't downtempo given an almost non-existent definition which varys from person to person. I just felt they were straying slightly from what I think is downtempo. Anyone disagree?
