Downloading music is not a crime, it's a MASSIVE generalisation. It's like saying "Picking things up is a crime", well, it is if you're on about robbing. Copyright infringement *IS* a crime, but downloading is not the same as copyright infringement. In fact, downloading copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder isn't even illegal. Uploading is illegal (since you're violating the contract you're agreeing to by having a copy, when you're downloading you don't have a copy and thus there is not implicity-agreed-to contract). Obviously downloading and uploading are the same thing viewed from different reference frames, but the brainwashing advertising thrown around by groups like the RIAA is just a complete lie and should be banned under false advertising regulations.

I don't mind buying records, after I've downloaded them and know that I enjoy them, and generally only if they're from smaller acts or labels. If you absolutely have to purchase your favorite major label band's music, get on eBay or Amazon. Buy used. You can get something in "like new" quality for a fraction of the price, and your money goes to the seller.

Perhaps. But again, looking at my charts there is hardly if not at all any major label music in the list.

It's not exactly an irony. Read an article that is linked somewhere in the Description. The point of the group is to educate (I guess) people about the close minded major labels, and it doesn't matter if your favourite band/singer is signed on one, like my top band, TOOL, is; As long as you choose NOT to buy their music, but instead support them directly through the means like merchandise and/or live gigs, then everything is gravy. Here's a great tool that allows you to see if RIAA has their dirty hands around your favourite band's throat: http://www.riaaradar.com/ I haven't really updated anything ever since I created this group, I might work on it to make this something more than just a "check mark" for the people who agree with it. Cheers.

The irony is that most of the weekly artists are or were on RIAA labels!

I prefer to buy merchandise and concert tickets, but sometimes it's nice to have a collection of CDs
