    WELCOME

Welcome to The Under 100 Listeners Group' Promoters Journal.

This is to collect artists that have been connected to our group or recently suggested to us. The first couple of journals however, will be filling all the old connected and added to our Comprehensive Under 100 Listeners 'LISTED' thread.

Please enjoy and listen to each. I have put my ratings out of ten for each, what are your ratings? Comment below.

    ABOUT JOURNAL ONE

These are the artists that were listed at the end of 2012. All artists now may not be under 100 listeners still, but we still support them in this journal as they were not part of our magazines.

All artists should be free to listen to, exceptions are noted.

  • What is music for me

    23 Sep 2013, 05:10 by Neue_regel_

I usually adopt my own variation of the Wiki definition for 'music':

Music is an Art form. It consists of fluctuations of sound and/or silence. Silence is the absence of sound. Sound is a mechanical wave. Sound is manifested as an oscillation of air pressure (or some other medium).

Sound is transmitted through some medium, such as gas (e.g. air), solid (e.g. metal) or liquid (e.g. water). It is composed of frequencies within the range of animal hearing. On human hearing: it is restricted to sounds that are perceptible by the human ear. These sounds have frequencies from around 20 Hertz (bassy) to 20 Kilohertz ( high-pitched). Hertz is the number of cycles per second. Therefore, high-pitched sounds of 20 Kilohertz are 20 thousand air-pressure oscillations per second. (or 1 cycle every 50 microseconds (μs). Cesium-133 atom is the benchmark for the hertz definition.

    P.S. 1 :
Air pressure (P) is directly correlated to ambient temperature(T) , gas volume (V), and substance amount (n), according to the Universal Gas Law:
    P * V = n * R * T
    where
P = the absolute pressure of the gas, in Pa (pascal)
n = amount of substance, in mol
V = the volume of the gas, in cubic meters (m^3)
T = the absolute temperature of the gas, in Kelvin (K)
R = the universal gas law constant of 8.3145 m3·Pa/(mol·K)

    P.S. 2 :
Excerpt off Dawkins' Unweaving the Rainbow :
"The feeling of awed wonder that science can give us is one of the highest experiences of which the human psyche is capable. It is a deep aesthetic passion to rank with the finest that music and poetry can deliver. It is truly one of the things that make life worth living and it does so, if anything, more effectively if it convinces us that the time we have for living is quite finite. "

  • Why I don't give a shit about scrobbling anymore.

    18 Sep 2013, 00:24 by lter__Impius

    Pros and cons of scrobbling.

    Pros
    :
    - It's nice to see the charts.
    - It's interesting taking a look at them in retrospect, see how they were evolving, recall nice memories they evoke.
    - You get recommendations that match the music you use to listen to the most.
    - You can easily make friends with people with similar music tastes.

    Cons:
    - If you want the stats of what you are listening to to be reflected in your profile -if you want to scrobble- you have to play them through some application that allows scrobbling. Searching -and getting to listen to- songs and albums through youtube tend to be far more easy and fast than downloading them.
    - You listen to music because you love music, not because you want to scrobble it. Listening to music represents an intrinsic motivation. Adding an extrinsic motivation like wanting to scrobble the music you want to listen to makes your listening experience less enjoyable.
    - It can change the way you listen to music. "Let that song playing for 5 more seconds, I prefer it to scrobble", "don't fast-forward that song", etc.
    - If you want accurate stats you have to have accurate tags in the songs you are scrobbling.

    Pros commented:
    - I don't need nice charts.
    - I don't need this particular thing so I can recall precious memories nor I need to see how my music tastes were evolving. Plus, I don't need anything of that, I prefer the present and its pleasures.
    - That would be nice but I don't need it and I can get them through many other ways.
    - That's nice but most of them live in the other corner of the world and there's much more than music in life. Plus, I can make friends everywhere.

    Cons commented:
    - I don't want to think of scrobbling when I want to listen to music. I mean, if I want to listen to a particular song or album I just go to youtube and I listen to it. It's not like I need not to scrobble, it's just I prefer it that way.
    - That's right. It's like all that shit that people buy and then forget about it, and they keep working to pay that shit again.
    - This is plain stupid.
    - I prefer not to waste my time that way. If you don't give a fuck about scrobbling you don't give a fuck about tagging -oh, internet language.
  • Start And Click Series: Similar Artists From Prof. Wolfff

    12 Aug 2013, 14:46 by TheArtistBox

    ABOUT

This journal series is a little game I used to read along to on this music forum. The basic idea was you started from an artist and you click the first similar artist on the list. You listen, write a few lines and rate the song and move onto their first similar artist. If their first similar artist was the same as your current run you were allowed to go to the second and if that was the same to the third and so on.

    So here are the rules:

Choose an artist that you have played recently.
Choose there first artist in their similar artist tab
Write a few lines about the song you heard and rate it.
    And repeat.

The game stops when you run out of steam or you’re just getting the same artists again and again even though you are going to the next similar artist down the list.

This is a very good way to also get artists you never heard of and listen to them.

    EPISODE 1

I am going to split them into episodes of around 5 artists each.

I started with Prof. Wolfff and this is my journey:

    1) Eulenspygel - Staub Auf Deinem Haar (8:01)
    ,
    8/10

A nice tune. Of course not English but you get the idea what they are singing about. After a section of singing, this song goes off on a remarkable tangent with solos from organ, guitar and the drums.

As the first similar artist was Prof. Wolfff I went to the second.

    2) Erna Schmidt - La Folie D' Espagne (7:04)
    ,
    9.5/10

A recorder mixed with an array of sounds from jazzy drumbeats, strumming guitars and bouncy bass which magnifies into a loud crazy solo and a hyperbeat from the drummer. An amazing introduction which maintains energy throughout the song.

    3) Eiliff - Hallimasch (8:48)
    ,
    7.2/10
A darker feel to this song with cymbal stuttering and the use of a wawa pedal. Extrodinary writing skills with the alluding almost 'fear' of something major in the song. Keeps you entertained but does get tiring after a few minutes of the same bar. However, the vocals distorted lyrical delivery keeps you on the edge when the instrumental electrifies your interest back again.

    4) Trikolon - In Search Of The Sun (15:40)
    ,
    8.9/10

A start of a marathon that reminds me of a Led Zeppelin meets Genesis. It also has the same delivery with the lyrics of The Animals. The instrumentation is okay, nothing to special up and until the solo with the organ which tantalizingly confronts you with pure fantastic scores. The length may put off a few listeners however the vocals and divergent onto solos and instrumentation keeps you listening to the very end without even wanting to look up how much time you have left.

As the first similar artist was the same artist as another already on this list, I went with the second.

    5) Tetragon - For Example (16:40)
    ,
    9.8/10

Another long song but here I really like the drumming on this one more so than the rest. The experimentation fills and creativity the drummer shows on this song is remarkable but not the only special thing on this song. The instrumentation as a whole where the organ works with the bass and drummer is truly defined. The guitar with sparring solos and credible licks keep the song at high commendable spirit. A shame no vocals but this doesn't make it obsolete and it doesn't deter from the excellent musicianship on display here.

Hope you enjoyed this one! I certainly did.
