MEMBER QUOTES:

"This group is filled with respect. :-) "

"Forget the layout, this is the best group on the site regardless... mostly because of the 10 or so regular members. No other group on this site has any real value. "

"please join us ... we listen to music from every corner of the Earth, every style known to (wo)man, and each era going back in time... we dont miss a thing :)

Do you listen to Mac Dre back to back with Fleetwood Mac? Guy back to back with Buddy Guy? How about Kris Kristofferson back to back with Kris Kross? Do you have an extreme listening experience in music? Are you interested in expanding your musical horizons? Do you like music trivia and history?

If you said yes to any of these questions, this group might be for you...

Obviously it is not requirement to participate in order to join or be part of this group, BUT Participating in the featured listening is a fun way to expand our music knowledge and diversity ...

I would like to know if everyone wants to keep the original system: listening to one genre a week? Or should we look for another system?

I think we should "reorganize" this group. Obviously the "themes-thing" is not working atm. But there were interesting ideas (from Ton and/or Phoust?!). Maybe we can find an other way for this group?! Otherwise I fear: this group is dead... :-(

You're right, I also hear the similarities between the singing styles of Nina Simone and John Jacob Niles.

Tooneb's John Jacob Niles recommendation is awesome. First thing I thought when heard it was that it reminds me of Nina Simone http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=NWmCbEbMmeU

Sorry all. Was not aware it was my week again this week. Brain has been elsewhere lately. Not even sure what to suggest to listen to really. Head's a bit screwed at the mo. All my favourite musicians keep dyin' on me & for someone like me who finds a lot of solace in my music I'm findin' it tough. Been spending a lot of time on here http://live.magnoliaelectricco.com/ listening to the rarer stuff I haven't got by him. Have a listen if you like. He's worth an explore if you've not heard him. Similarly, Vic Chesnutt & Sparklehorse. They all mean an awful lot to me. Otherwise yer own yer own I'm afeared. Or ye can have a rummage in my Last Fm account http://www.last.fm/user/contraryarticle to see if owt takes yer fancy. Or there's my 8 tracks mixes http://8tracks.com/kittythehair . Thanks AM xxx

Since we don't have a them for this week yet, I have two of my recent discoveries as a recommendation: John Jacob Niles and Pražský výběr.
