    March 2010 Recommendations

It's time for everyone to share their recommendations for March. Please keep in mind that if you are a member of this group, and reading this, participation is a mandatory requirement for remaining a member of this group. I haven't cracked down on anyone as far as that rule goes, and I would rather not have to. Eventually I will purge the group of members who never participate though, which if you ask me, defeats the purpose of even belonging to a group in the first place. Enough of the serious shit though... here are the first of my recommendations for March:

Alain Goraguer - A bit of experimental French jazz. Check out the soundtrack to La Planet Sauvage which is some unique yet beautiful music

Red Snapper - Groovy instrumental Acid Jazz/Trip-Hop. The album Prince Blimey[/album] is a good starting point.

Bison B.C. - Stoner/Doom Metal group that went by the name of Bison in the past

Trampled by Turtles - Modern bluegrass outfit with a modern approach to the genre

Neuma - Experimental metal group from Poland. Check out the album [artist album=Neuma]Weather[/album] last.fm has them tagged as "Mathcore"

Igor Wakhévitch - Avant-Garde composer. You can find the album "Docteur Faust", which is an amazing trippy album, on the Digital Meltd0wn blog.
That's all for now. I'll update the main page with the recommendations for March as soon as a few other people list their recs.

  • Igor Wakhévitch is great!

    ummm...

    How about:

    - Decibel (there appear to be about 7 different artists with this name on last.fm - I'm referring to the Mexican RIO group who are absolutely wonderful)

    - Travelling (French Canterbury style Jazz-prog)

-Blaine L. Reininger (member of Tuxedomoon, kinda hard to describe really. New wave/experimental type of thing. Especially recommended are his Instrumentals)

    Shool, shool, shoola manna roo
Sal a mana ral a back, sal a baba doo
Then I sigh for a sal a baba dink
Come a dibble al a doo sal dory.

@Wombfruit - Yeah, Igor Wakhévitch is amazing isn't he? I'm happy that I stumbled across him.Thank you for your recommendations. I hope more people decide to participate before the end of the month. We're already almost halfway through the month and only have two posts. I'll be adding a few more recommendations of my own tomorrow.

I was hoping to have more time on my hands to put together a larger list, but here are a few more recommendations. I hope more of you will join in before the end of the month.

Godkiller - Industrial Black Metal from Monaco. One of the few black metal related projects I have enjoyed without feeling as if I forced myself to make it through the whole album

The Mad Capsule Markets - Industrial metal from Japan

Boukman Eksperyans Upbeat Carribean music from Haiti

Tom Zé - Brazilian pioneer of the Tropicalia movement

Jeep Beat Collective - Hip-hop/Turntablism from the UK

Mano Negra - Former band of Manu Chao who play an energetic form of ska punk

  • Not much music going on this month as I go through some audio books including Richard Dawkins' 'The Greatest Show on Earth'.

However I come bearing at least one quality offering for this month. Someone recently put me onto UK punk outfit Leatherface, which had managed to slip under the radar.

Thanks for the rec 2cans. I wish that everyone could recommend at least one recommendation per month, which would be preferable to a select few individuals posting large lists. I know the members of the group listen to a very wide variety of music, and it would make for a more eclectic recommendation list if more people were to participate. Perhaps we'll be able to get all the lurkers to share their recommendations soon.

  • No worries, mate. I respect your enthusiasm for music evident here and on the blog. LastFM is just a bunch of lists without active groups.

I'm still struggling with how I should go about increasing activity within the group. I personally invited a lot of the people here, so I know that the members listen to a very wide range of music. I find it disappointing that we have a collective of people who have such an extensive knowledge of music, but most of the people fail to take a few minutes out of each month to leave recommendations for the other members of the group. I work and go to school full time, and yet I still run the blog, blogroll, and leave a few recommendations here occasionally. I suppose some people just join groups, and then forget that they even belong to them. I can't think of any other reason why people would join groups and then choose not to participate in them :shrugs:

Edit: btw I'm on a short vacation right now, but I will try to update the list of recommendations on the main page for this month if I have access to a computer.

  • If the LastFM reply tracker was fully online and not hidden it would help.

    Anyways, I've another:

X (I'm talking the Australian punk band formed in Sydney, 1977.)

    ETA: And another:

Eddy Current Suppression Ring I found these guys on the charts of my group Orstralia.

@MsAineseY: Thank you for your recommendations. I believe the members here listen to a bit of everything, including Spanish music, so feel free to post whatever interests you. It's bound to interest someone else too.

These will be the last recommendations that I will be posting for the month.

Hossam Ramzy - Egyptian tabla player

Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou - Amazing funky afrobeat band from the country of Benin (Africa)

Skeleton Crew - Swiss experimental rock outfit

I thought that I had already posted the recommendations for March on the main page, but apparently I forgot to save it? They are up now, and I will also be posting them on the DM blog, and on my last.fm journal for future reference. There is still time to submit recommendations for March if you haven't already. Thank you to all who participated. I'll create a post for April's recommendations on April 1st.

HHelheim - I have no idea about who he is, a member of the band, I guess - reported me PAUTINA: an ukrainian experimental progressive rock band. They made just three tracks, but I think that they deserve a listen.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll add it to the main page now. I'll go ahead and start a new recommendation thread for April while I'm at it. I hope to see you all there, as well as a few new faces, and I look forward to your latest recommendations.
